Before Birth
Born and raised in the East.
Terra's mother died in childbirth and she was raised by her father until he was killed in an assassination.
Early Life
After her father's death, Terra was raised by her grandmother, who passed away when Terra was ten years old. She avoided child services by bribing her landlord and dropping out of school, easily slipping between the cracks of the East's disorganized and corrupt system.
She stayed away from the prevalent street gangs in her area, which kept her out of trouble despite her extreme poverty, but also led to her leading a very isolated and hyper-vigilant lifestyle.
When she abandons her life to follow Blackfire into the unknown, there was nothing for her to lose. While she was initially bitter over being dragged into a conspiracy and war, the bonds she begins to develop with Blackfire and the other rebels eventually outweigh her desire for self-preservation.
Later years
Later on, Terra learned that her family had a rich ancestry involving Guardians, which was part of the reason for her father's death. She was actually bonded with Blackfire as a child, but for her protection, her father had her memories erased. Therefore, when Blackfire revealed himself to her, it created a forced bond that made their relationship and abilities extremely unstable. Not only does she want to help bring peace to the Nations, but she is also determined to discover the secrets behind her father's motivations and the nature of her bond with Blackfire.
Overall, Terra wasn't expecting to become a rebel leader, yet here she is.

Before Birth
Coming from a long line of Guardians tracing back to the beginning of human and animal bonding, Blackfire carries within him an unique spirit passed down to him from his ancestors.
Early life
Blackfire was awakened from Terra's birth, following in her footsteps and acting as her guide as just a pup. He was happy and proud with his role, and took his job as a Guardian very seriously.
And then, to protect her, Terra's father erased her memories, and Blackfire faded. Having been awakened and bonded with Terra already, however, the ritual that was supposed to banish him to the secondary plane failed; and so, Blackfire existed as a ghost.
For years, Blackfire drifted, not truly living yet also not unconscious like other unawakened Guardians. He watched over Terra from afar, struggling to reach her even though he barely knew why, and it was only when she was facing imminent death that he wrenched himself over the gap separating them.
Later years
Blackfire had no choice but to drag Terra from her home. He knew as soon as he re-awakened himself that he had to protect her from the conspiracy and war emerging around them. More than that, however, he wanted to help Terra find answers for her father's motivations and the nature of their bond.
He was the one that convinced Terra to lead the Ascendants, even though he never pictured himself as the partner to a rebel leader.
