The Explorer

The Explorer is a young slugcat learning to make their own way in the world. Driven by a thirst for adventure and an insatiable curiosity, they've explored every nook and cranny of their slugcat clan's home turf, and they range farther from it by the day. They're aided by an inborn ability to change their coloration like white lizards do, which lets them blend stealthily into their surroundings no matter where they are. Unlike The Soundless, The Explorer doesn't automatically match the color of their surroundings; they must concentrate to alter the color of their coat, and they can do so at will, which lets them use their ability for signaling and communication as well as for camouflage. Curiously, neither of their parents have this ability, nor does the Explorer have all the unique abilities of their parents. Perhaps these genetic anomalies originated from purposed organisms in their family tree.

In the course of their wanderings, the Explorer came across an Iterator and received the Mark of Communication. They now bring any pearls they find to this Iterator, who humors them by reading the contents of the data pearls aloud. Although they can't venture quite as deep as the Diver due to their slightly lower lung capacity and lack of a light source, the Explorer still inherited a strong affinity for water, which helps them navigate underwater and find submerged pearls.
