Born in the midwest on an isolated farm to a Spaniard rancher and a native woman, Aquene grew up sheltered from other children. Raised both with tribal customs and christianity, the townsfolk were wary of her and her brother. When a fire razed and killed her father's competition, the family blamed her parents.

Finding them dead on the farm's porch, she ran into town with a rifle. Confined to the farm until her bullets run out, she is considered a harlot and less than human by the town.
