• once a simple farmer who was blamed when an illness struck the small countryside town he was living in
• he was one of the first to get sick but due to being young and healthy otherwise, he survived the illness
• while many around him where struck down by it, especially elderly and children
• eventually he was blamed for cursing the town and killed by competing farmers
• Tarek didn't stay dead long, however
• he returned, angry about how he was treated, now spreading disease onto the farmers' livestock and even their crops
