Hettie was raised solely by her father, and grew up to continue her father's work of being a blacksmith. She moved out at age twenty (20) and entered a new town-- the town of Mellevil, which was booming with opportunity for the young lady. She was skilled in her craft, and quickly made many returning customers. Two people in particular visited her very often: twin sisters Elizabeth and Erika, whom were engineers. They often came for supplies, so it became custom to get acquainted with them. Hettie found Elizabeth to have a stronger bond with her, and they eventually began dating. Many years pass, where the two women are happily wed, ready to spend the rest of their lives together.
And spend the rest of their lives they did. Or, Hettie's life, at least.
No one could have predicted the end of the world, but it took its form in smog, deadly to the majority of the human population. While Elizabeth held immunity to it, Hettie did not. Elizabeth had created a gas mask system for Hettie, but it eventually failed, exposing Hettie to the deadly fumes. She barely lasted an hour.
Struck with grief and blaming herself for her wife's death, Elizabeth dedicated her life to bringing her back.
PRESENT HETTIE (ROBOT)Hettie is a robot that was created by the engineer Elizabeth Eckhart, designed after her late wife Henrietta Eckhart. Hettie's relationship with Elizabeth isn't like the one the two in the past had, obviously, since their up-bringing was completely different. She does love Elizabeth, but its not the type of love that Elizabeth would've hoped for. Hettie's sense of love is more like a comradery: Elizabeth created her, so the least she could do is to fill the role of a wife for her remaining years.
Then there's the whole can of worms of Hettie acknowledging that she was born as a replacement. She didnt know how to properly accept it, but she tried to be the best wife to her. and now that Elizabeth is gone, the last thing she has of her is the task to deliver the letter to her sister, which she wants to achieve so badly. But she isn't sure of whats to come of her after that. She's finally living for herself, instead of remaining at Elizabeth's side. It's a big change for her.
