Axel is a guardian of old, born in the Late Dark Age, just as The Six Coyotes were forming. This ancient warlock is a master of the void and considered a practiced Voidwalker by all who encounter him. His original fireteam has been lost to time, and he finds himself preferring to spend more time solo than not. Before his time with his current fireteam, Axel lived in the forest with the Eliksni he had befriended; hiding away his shame over losing his friends from the Vanguard and citizens of The Last City. Fueled by a new-found passion for his friends and a desire to learn everything there is to know about Ahamkara, the warlock has returned to the Last City and begun living as a guardian once again.

Prison of Elders
- Axel spent days upon days in the Prison, partaking in the Challenge of Elders.

- He collects the Ahamkara bone artifacts and wears a tooth necklace under his armor.

- While he may not understand it, he loves old "art" from ancient libraries such as "DeviantArt".

The Eliksni
- A Vandal rescued Axel from dying to a Captain and they formed a close bond when he was otherwise alone.

Hive/Taken Magic
- Axel lost multiple fireteam members to either Hive or Taken magic over the years he's been alive.

Crucible/Iron Banner
- In one of the first Iron Banner tournaments in the original Tower, Axel was forced to kill his partner when he went insane.

- As a much younger guardian, he was forced to use solar abilities despite disliking how they made him feel.

The Cabal
- Axel is more wary of the Cabal than other enemies after seeing how relentless they can be during the Red War.

Partially Taken
- When Axel was summoned to help fight Oryx while he was living with the Eliksni and he volunteered along with a dear hunter friend. During this mission, Dev-7 was killed by the Hive and Axel was partially Taken by Oryx. As a result of this, he now randomly blinks to the Shattered Rhealm and back, causing him nausea and often startling his fireteams.

Ahamkara Scholar
- Axel first encountered the Ahamkara during the Great Ahamkara Hunts, where he was known to slay them with a small group of other voidwalkers. Some believe that he made a wish during the hunts and, as a result, has greatly cursed himself to misfortune in order to have some semblance of the life he had dreamed he'd have as a guardian.

Kell of Forests
- In the time between his original fireteam's collapse and meeting his new one, Axel formed what can only be described as an Eliksni house where he was named the Kell of Forests. The group lived in the deep lost forests of Earth and avoided contact with the City and citizens.

Before Being a Guardian
- As a civilian before the collapse, Axel was a German art teacher who lived alone and spent his days either in his class teaching or baking assorted pastries and breads in his apartment. He loved rock music, reading, and collecting handcarved woodworks.

- His hair is relatively messy and can change the direction it flows.
- Armor will usually be blues, blacks, purples, and pinks.
- Usually has a high collar that acts as a scarf.

Axel and his Ghost have a very loving relationship, acting much like brothers. The two of them share a penchant for exploring and learning, their intellect and collaboration giving them the tools to make it through some of the roughest challenges that guardians can face together.
When Klein revived Axel, he was prepared to have an intelligent and focussed guardian, but didn't expect they would challenge each other the way they do. Axel keeps Klein in check by adding spontaneous activities to their routine and Klein is always keeping Axel from going too far or pushing himself past his limits. Together, they create a balanced team that keeps each other quitting or faltering as much as possible.

Axel's distrust of the Vanguard and his history with the traumatic things that happened in the Last City have led him to owning a massive freighter that he lives in most of the time. The ship is large enough to hold two small jumpships along with its many housing and living spaces it provides. The top floor is a command center featuring a war table and area to drive the ship. Along the bottom of the ship is a docking bay and a cargo bay that contain benches for carrying large fireteams to drop locations. The middle two floors contain large living quarters for Axel and Rhys, as well as a small, temporary living space for 4 other guardians. Extra ammenities include a library, armory, observatory, and a shared common area between the living quarters.
Trivia
- Axel speaks some Eliksni and is always looking for more people to teach the language and more Eliksni to practice on. (Velask!)
- Axel carries and Ahamkara tooth with him at all times, usually as a necklace.
- Despite his willingness to partake in missions for the Vanguard, he generally opposes them and their rule and refuses to follow instruction.
