Bar-Japhet Pillar; one of the select few of the hivemind allowed a sense of individuality who keep the entire thing running smoothly. Thisbe is an ambassador too, thanks to their incredible mental fortitude and unwavering dedication to the Bar-, ensuring they won't desert upon leaving telepathic range. This man has committed so many war crimes

Thisbe is attacked on an embassy trip by hired thugs who clearly dont know how japhets work, and dumped in cold storage unconscious but still alive. His instincts take over as he sluggishly awakens and he slaughters the entire ship to escape, save for the navigator Oraieus - a member of a mind-reading species who saw him coming as his comrades dropped. Neither of them are having a fun time as Thisbe forces him to take the ship back to the Bar-, and both of them have a worse time when the Bar- openly rejects Thisbe and they flee back to the ship. The Pillar has been replaced and it is in fact the Bar-Japhet that wants Thisbe dead.

Oraieus makes a grave mistake upon finding Thisbe back on his vessel, defeated and ready for him to end them: furious, he takes over their mind to make them suffer first - blindly assuming that a japhet being in such a state would blunt their infamous mental capabilities. The two of them wake up on the floor mind-melded and in a desperate panic. After an excruciating week of trying to pull their personalities apart over and over, they have just enough success to come to their senses and locate an expert. It’s felt like a million years and they loathe each other and themselves but they've had to reconcile their differences at the same time... it's messy and complicated. During rehab and even after they're not sure what their next steps will be.

thisbe is left with an aching desire for himself to change and oraieus is left with a desire to help him through it - an outside perspective coupled with insider knowledge absolutely wrecks Thisbe’s perception of his existence and his [genuineness] and begging/pleas for help remains in Oraieus afterwards.

Thisbe is stiff and ruthless. They mince no words and take no prisoners and have only just learned of a moral code that was never theirs to begin with, so they're.... a lot.
