With a playful nature and deep obsession with looks, Marice spends hours meticulously grooming her long, flowing hair and adorning herself with shells. She takes immense pride in her enchanting beauty and often seeks admiration from others.

However, beneath her prideful exterior lies a fragile ego and tendency towards jealousy. Marice becomes easily envious of those who possess qualities, items, or relationships she desires, and she struggles to control her emotions when overcome by envy and greed. She can swiftly turn from playful and charming to vengeful and spiteful, not hesitating to lash out at those she perceives as threats to her status or beauty.

Though her actions may sometimes be driven by jealousy, Marice is not entirely malevolent. She yearns for genuine connections and often seeks validation from others. When she feels appreciated and admired, she returns the sentiment and becomes possessive of her new admirer.

Background

Born and raised in Narcissa's Lagoon, Marice knew only the company of her kind. The cove's towering walls and dense foliage made contact with surface dwellers rare. For many years, her only outside connection was with a boy, Henri, who was able to freely fly down to the beach. Their friendship blossomed, but to Marice's frustration, he never grew stronger feelings like she did.

Job oppurtunities in such a small community were limited, so Marice sought work in the surface world. Her heritage made it easy for her to land a position as a swim teacher. But everything fell apart when envy consumed her after seeing Henri with another girl, leading to a regrettable incident where she attempted to drown the girl in a fit of jealous rage.

Evening Star Reformatory

Following the upheaval, Marice was given a choice: incarceration in a juvenile facility or enrollment at Evening Star Reformatory, an institution tailored for wayward mages. If Marice could maintain good grades and good behavior, she could not only avoid prison when she turned 18 but also regain the opportunity to get a mage's license.

The only issue was Marice's disinterest in magic and her lack of repentance for her crime. Ideally she could drift through her education with minimal effort and reap the rewards. This dream was crushed when she was sorted into a coven, Clockwise, and she met the Governess who ran it with an iron fist- literally.
