Biretta

PERSONALITY: Biretta is loyal to the Catholic Church, though isn't exactly pious. His years living homeless on the streets have taught him various techniques to survive on his own while down on his luck, including conniving, backstabbing, and information-gathering. This served him well, especially as he climbed the ranks of the Catholic hierarchy. He's an extrovert, comes off as charming and charismatic, and is a bit of a flirt despite his age. He's not bothered by most insults, having grown accustomed to being insulted, and is emotionally distant from even his friends, while retaining a strictly religious rhetoric when giving advice to other people.

BIO: From a young age, Biretta was orphaned and lived in Naples for a majority of his childhood, and a lot of people detested him or though him a freak thanks to his heterochromatic eye. During this turbulent period of his life, he learned to talk his way out of bad situations and lead quite a crime-filled life. As a teenager, he decided he'd take advantage of the Catholic Church's handouts to the poor of the city, and after convincing the Cardinal there that he was indeed a particularly pious person, and used his strange eye condition as a talking point, stating that God blessed him with it. Thanks to his deceptive nature, he was taken in by a Cardinal of the church as a student.

Though he never really followed any denominations of Christianity before, being a part of the Catholic church did, at least, grant him purpose. To keep his place, he worked hard in attaining his Masters in Divinity, and eventually succeeded. With that, he was able to become an official Catholic priest, and continued the next few years elevating his position and keeping up his pious appearances. That being said, it was clear that being so immersed in these teachings was starting to change his mind about being a solely utilitarian person. Along the way to being elected as a Bishop, he had a small, personal change of heart, but he would not forfeit his gains here.

He was eventually elected to be a Cardinal, one of his greatest accomplishments, and felt genuinely happy, until the competition to replace the Pope became apparent. He managed to lie his way up this far, and though he was a pretty young Cardinal, one of his competitors saw the threat that Biretta posed as a Cardinal, his deceptive nature, and plotted to poison him. Biretta didn't suspect a thing up until the moment he died.

In heaven, he was quite well-respected, but it barely took a couple of years before it was obvious that any sense of good will he had gathered up from his years of preaching and being a leader in the Catholic hierarchy was soiled by the circumstances surrounding his death, and his bitterness at not becoming the Pope. His animosity manifested in angry outbursts at other angels, and when he wasn't angry, he was trying to con others to fill the empty void with whatever materialistic possessions he could gain in heaven. He was promptly and unceremoniously sent back to Earth.
