A flame starts small, but learns.. -成長
- Vermillion is a young slayer, only recently appointed as the Flame Hashira. He has not been fighting demons for as long as others have, but is skilled nonetheless when it comes to devoting himself to ridding the world of parasites that prey on humanity. As a quiet person, Vermillion comes across as aloof or lacking sufficient social skills, which is accurate about who he is as an individual. Although he has a big heart, he isn't the best at expressing himself properly or at all.
Luckily you don't need to be good at communication to be a great swordsman.

Likes
- Despite his affiliation with flame, he enjoys the ocean greatly, just like Tamako. It reminds him of childhood, the naivety to the cruel world and comforting feelings.
- He actually likes his crow (Kasakasa) a lot and gets along with him well. They have conversations about things they find interesting.
- His side hobby is collecting round rocks, painting seals on them and leaving them around villages and homes.
Dislikes
- Demons. They're cringe to him and he doesn't understand the appeal some of them saw in becoming one.
- People who don't take their shoes off before entering a home. It's a pet peeve of his.
- He doesn't like bigots and wonders why they even exist. They serve no purpose but to be parasitic to the rest of the world.
Pre-Slayer
- Throughout his youth, he was told nothing but great things about his father. As a child, he was brought up to cherish the man that could have been, to appreciate him for what he did to serve the people, and to love him despite his absence.
“Ehh- Vermillion no chichi wa yasashii hito desu!~”
Those were the words Tamako spoke whenever the topic of his father came up in conversation. He talked about him as if he hadn’t passed away when Vermillion was a small child, although they both knew he had. His father was a former Hashira, one of the best; he could brag, and he died for a cause that gave Vermillion's life meaning. Protecting the people who couldn't protect themselves. Showing up for the people who needed him. Changing the cold world into a warmer one.
It was no surprise when he turned fourteen that Vermillion enlisted in the Demon Slayer Corps and left home despite Tamako's protests. His father couldn't carry on his legacy any longer, but he could for him.
Final selection
- His training was rigorous, and many others dared not consider following the route he did. Flame breathing, for some reason, caught his attention. Its robust and wide-ranging powers allowed the user to create a variety of effective styles. Those who made use of it had ardent, committed hearts and were bold and proud. Although he wasn't as gregarious as they were, he nevertheless put in a lot of work.
He schooled his body to adapt to the breathing style for a span over three years. After a year passed, he left the mountains his journey started in and moved on to live and train beside a volcano. The exclusive progression there was almost unbearable, yet he stubbornly persevered. An image of his father standing before the setting sun shrouded by light and with only a proud, warm smile visible kept him going. He couldn't fail him.
Vermillion was permitted to enter the Final Selection at the age of 17. It didn't take him long to succeed and come out on the other end wearing minimum injuries. He received his ore and a couple of weeks later, his sword. The blade turned red, as he hoped it would. His teachers accepted his request to continue learning from them and he was brought to a sacred home, where for two months he would engage in an ongoing ritual.
Every day for two hours, he gazed at a flame. His hair turned a different hue over time, giving the ends a fiery appearance. His eyes gradually shifted from blue to red, then became encircled in a thick, orange shade. He grew more powerful and when he graduated from the ritual, immediately embarked on climbing the ladder of ranks.

Trivia:
- Vermillion is a Flame Hashira. He worked hard to get to where he is and it stunted a lot of his emotional and social growth. While he gets along well with others, he lacks a greater understanding of how to make friends, how to keep friends and how to be one with society in a healthy, respectable way.
- Vermillion's actual written name is 'Aka' or 'Akai', which simply means red. He responds to both Vermillion and Aka/i, but will not respond to being called 'red'.
- Wow, I can't believe Tamako and Taquila had a kid and this is him.
