The Everett family of weaponsmiths are well-renowned in the Kalos region, not just for the quality of the weapons they produce, but for the special quality they contained. Weapons and tools created by an Everett can harness the latent power of the user's aura, allowing an extra burst of power when used that can wound not just the flesh, but the soul as well. Shane Everett, one the latest in the family line, has been able to take this a step further by channeling aura itself as a weapon, something that hasn't been seen in the Everett family line in over three generations. Despite this incredible power, Shane wanted to become a champion more than anything else. So, at the age of 17, he set out on a months-long journey throughout Kalos, fighting the gym leaders and reaching the rank of Champion.

What should have been the best moment of Shane's life instead heralded the darkest period of all. After becoming a Champion-ranked trainer, Shane felt strangely empty and unfulfilled, and he couldn't explain why. Juggling his career as a weaponsmith and accepting challengers from all over Kalos and beyond, Shane grew increasingly burnt out and complacent. The fire that fueled him into making a run for the Kalos champion had been reduced to embers. At 21, while he looked rather calm and friendly on the outside, internally he felt more and more like he was just piloting an empty shell. One day, he received an invitation for Champion-class trainers from all over the world to compete in a special challenge in Sinnoh. Shane jumped at the opportunity, and the embers in his soul seemed to flicker brighter, as he prepared to make the journey.
