Astro Valerian is seen as intimidating for quite a few reasons: their height, blank expressions, bluntness, and anger issues. Though Astro doesn't particularly do anything to dispel that rumor, people often realize that Astro does mean well due to their actions. They are polite with their words, though they do notably struggle with social cues, and always speaks out for others, even those not close to them. Astro is an introvert at heart, not close to many but very close to those who they are friends with. They are very protective of their friends, willing to protect them no matter the cost. Astro is rather set in their ways and often sees the worst part of things, but they are willing to hear out people when they need it--even if they often offer to beat up the thing that's causing the issues.
