Quirk Name: | Pitch Black | Quirk Type: | Mutation | Quirk Description: | Nika has pitch black skin that absorbs all light reflected on it, and "perfect nightvision" that lets her see clearly even in the complete absence of light. Her main ability is she can alter her body type at will, elongating or compressing her limbs or body, even becoming paper thin, or bending limbs that should have bones, but she's still confined to an overall humanoid body shape... except the darker the ambient light level, the less "restricted" her form is, allowing her to stretch her limbs even further, or manifest new ones entirely, or completely change her body plan. | Quirk Drawbacks: | Her quirk takes up stamina, as if she were exerting her muscles. Doing so will tire her out and make her short of breath, eventually causing her to collapse from exhaustion, or suffer from muscle aches the next day. Transforming takes up the majority of her energy; maintaining a transformation is far easier, unless it is very different than her "default" form. It takes just as much energy for her to transform in darkness, but the transformations she does in darkness are larger and more elaborate due the reduced restrictions, so she tires herself out much faster. | Strengths: | - For a physical fighter, Nika's quirk provides a fair amount of versatility. Her ability to elongate her limbs gives her a much larger zone of control compared to other melee fighters.
- Without visible contours, it's hard to read her stance, making her a "trickier" one-on-one combat than others would expect... made harder by her variable proportions (i.e if she makes her torso concave, it would still look convex to an onlooker, so a punch could easily "whiff" from the unexpected distance)
- When she's at peak "power level", i.e in darkness, she's a fair bit stronger than quirk users who have the same "average power level" as her (i.e classmates)... though there are still ways they can turn the tide back in their favor.
- Nika is very smart and focused. If you give her enough time, she'll figure out how an opponent's quirk works and figure out a very solid plan of action. Plus, attempts to distract her or keep her focused on the fight itself won't interrupt this. Admittedly, she does think at a slow rate.
- In battle, Nika's insight and naturally unnerving personality and appearance synergize quite well to throw opponents off their rhythm.
| Weakness: | - Bright, ambient light (i.e enough to make you squint), or intense flashes of light (such as from a camera) weakens her quirk and can force her into a "chibi" state where she has no access to her shapeshifting at all, until given time to recover (recovers faster in darkness, but usually a tree can provide enough shade). She also gets overheated in sunlight easily... not to mention sunburnt.
- Her chibi form is a 3 foot tall version of her, with chibi proportions (thus the name). She's physically much weaker in this form, losing her ability to dent metal with a punch, in addition to the lack of shapeshifting. However, she can't be considered out of the running, her chibi form is still strong enough to crack concrete! The fact that many tend to underestimate her chibi form’s strength is an advantage to her. Like most small things, she's actually proportionately stronger than she is at normal size, even if she's weaker overall!
- While her shapeshifting is unfettered in darkness, it takes just as much energy to use regardless of light level, and the fancier techniques and larger forms she has in darkness can cause her to tire out even faster than when she fights normally.
- Her skin is only as durable as regular human skin. Messing around with her body's proportions can make her vitals hard to target, but she's vulnerable to cutting and slashing attacks; even moreso the larger she makes herself.
- Nika is slow, in every sense of the word. Her attacks have a lot of momentum but are ponderous. Her reaction time is poor. Her ability to make plans in battle and outthink her opponents may be inexorable, taking just as long with or without numerous distractions, but it still takes a while.
- Nika has a bit of a sadistic streak, sometimes becoming overconfident and failing to resist the urge to toy with a losing opponent (especially if they're villains, much less so if they're friends.) This offers her opponents enough time to figure out how to turn the tide of battle, or at least a way to escape.
| Fighting Style: | In average light, she's got a very straightforward "brawler" style, elongating her limbs to give her a wide zone of control, or bending "unnaturally" to avoid attacks. Her lack of visual contours plus her shapeshifting gives her many tricks up her sleeve to anyone expecting a straightforward one-on-one fight. In darkness, she either attempts to ambush her foes, or overwhelm them with a massive physical form. Regardless of her chosen strategy, she always aims to finish them off quickly because the extreme transformations darkness allows her tire her out very quickly. Even though she's at her highest power, she may lose against a much weaker foe that simply outlasts her stamina. In her "chibi" form, the fight's not Quite over. Her chibi form is her weakest, least dangerous form, AND lack access to her shapeshifting quirk. However, it's her strongest proportional form, and she can go for the face or ankles, catching people off guard! |

| Nika is a strange person who tends to creep people out before they get to know her. Her attempts at warm, friendly greetings tend to come across as insincere, her morbid jokes seem more like threats, and the friendly smiles she gives to people from a distance are more unnerving than anything. Plus, she might consider someone a friend, and follow them around, without making her feelings towards them clear. She's aware she creeps people out and is genuinely trying to work on it, but at the same time isn't too bothered because she knows true friends will come to like her regardless. Also, she feels letting it phase her would be counterintuitive, and believe she would come across as shy AND creepy instead.
Nika tends to come across as dumb. When asked a question, or required to solve a problem, she tends to take a while to respond even when the answer is obvious. However she always figures problems out if given enough time; even really tricky ones that people smarter than her might have a hard time with. She's able to concentrate and keep a level head under most every circumstance, with strong focus, working memory, and logical reasoning. Plus, she tends to think of unorthodox solutions to problems that wouldn't occur to other people. When it comes to problems she can't solve on her own, she tends to forget she can simply ask others for help, though she will only occasionally refuse help if offered.
Nika doesn't tend to speak her mind, or display her emotions, and she's not consciously aware she's like this. Despite Nika's general social awkwardness, she is surprisingly quite perceptive when it comes to other people's thoughts and emotions, and her selfless nature means she will help people out without caring about getting credit for it. Nika is happy when the people she cares about are happy and loves seeing them enjoy the subtle things she does for them, whether its cleaning dishes, bringing someone a lunchbag they forgot, or scaring away a harasser. In her mind, if she lets them know she's responsible, it devalues it... though she won't deny it if asked. Nika's insight does fail her at times: when she's focused on something else (anything from combat, to simply studying for a test), she pays much less attention to others, later feeling incredibly guilty if she missed something important.
Nika tends to do as she pleases, far more than what she should do. She's certainly not impulsive, valuing her options, and contemplating possible outcomes, but has a strong bias towards the most pleasurable options for her. While her main form of pleasure seeking is helping others, she enjoys taking risks and putting herself in danger for the thrill of it. Even worse, however, is when her cruel and sadistic side comes out. When it comes to dishing out justice, she's a little overzealous, and actively enjoys making her opponents feel scared. This is easily her worst personality trait, and can even interfere with her role as a hero: not only can she take justice too far, her tendency to toy with her victims gives them time to think of a way out.
She'll only actively try to toy with hated foes; people she believes deserve it. But, the fact that she enjoys toying with people, and the fact that she has a hard time avoiding pleasure seeking, means it bleeds through against her friends, too. She cares a lot about her friends, for sure! She actively tries not to toy with them, never going so far as to make them feel helpless. But, as for making them afraid, by default she assumes people like being scared, just like she does... and if a person isn't enjoying being afraid, her usual perceptiveness may not come through; she's too focused on the fight for her to notice! If she knows her sparring partner doesn't like being afraid, she will actively avoid trying to scare them, and just defeat them straightforwardly... but she can still get carried away if she's not careful!
