Poppy was born and raised in Galway, Ireland. She was born in a family of four: her mother, a biologist with a passion for animals, her father, older sister and herself. Her mother used to work in a laboratory with Cillian M. Oktopus, a mad scientist that experimented in animals, found fascination in them but saw them as slaves for the human race… He even went as far as experimenting on himself, giving him the tentacles of an octopus and transplants of different hearts to live longer. He was the reason why Poppy’s mother was murdered on the laboratory by one of his mutants, leading her father to a spiral of depression and alcoholism, which lead him even as far as hitting his daughters… But Poppy’s older sister (Peony) always defended Poppy. He died in a car crash he caused under the effects of alcohol.
The sisters were taken under their aunt’s wing, Amelia Haley, that raised them dearly and as if they were her children. Peony, as she grew older, started to see Poppy as dumb and assumed it was because of how overprotected she has always been. She left the Haley household as soon as she started to work as a cop. Poppy never understood why Peony hated her that much because she adored her older sister.
Poppy started high-school and due to her shy and clumsy attitude she didn’t made any friends, but it didn’t matter because she was a really optimistic and positive person so she didn’t see that as a problem. Although, someone was actually interested in her… Cillian M. Oktopus, that was forbidden from the laboratory and found a job as a biology teacher. Even though he was the one to approach her after seeing her alone, he hated her guts from the very beginning… On the other side, he became Poppy’s favorite teacher. She loved biology and was always interested in it. She has always have some kind of connection with animals so she felt what they were feeling, but in a low scale.
One day, when Cillian was trying to do a frog experiment in class, Poppy started to cry after feeling the frog’s fear and need of freedom, which made Cillian lose his nerves and called her after class. He took her down the building, to his own private and secret laboratory. Poppy was overwhelmed by feelings, both by her own ones and by the ones of the animals trapped in the cages… Need of freedom, fear… Pain.
He threatened her and once he finished he let her go. Poppy ran as fast as possible from that place. It had rain that day, and the floor was wet and muddy, the sky was cleared and a huge rainbow adorned the sky. Poppy was still feeling a huge sense of freedom and she didn’t understood why until she felt a small bite on her hand. She looked and saw a tiny pink-ish spider biting her. Poppy let her go kindly.
The trip home was a mess but in a really positive way. In the place she always tripped she was able to prepare for the impact, she had good reflexes at home… But she was surprised when a weak spider web shoot from her wrist. After that night she experimented some changes. In general… She became better, but her spider sense, in contrast to other spider-people, was really weak. After some experimenting and many hits against buildings, she realized her empathy towards animals multiplied, so she felt their help, as if they were saying to which side she needed to go.
She became Spider-Heart, a mediocre hero if she had to admit it, but what Galways and Ireland needed. She was still as dumb as ever tho, as going as far as forgetting to use actually useful glasses instead of heart-shaped sunglasses.
Cillian knew right away Spider-Heart was Poppy, because the spider that bit her was one of his own experiments. He wanted to take her down. He wanted to take her down so bad. So he worked hard to do so. He hid his identity too, but still went by the name of Doctor Oktopus.
Poppy enrolled on the spider society after she helped Miguel take down an anomality. He initially though of her as useless due to her weak spidersense, but ate his words when he noticed how she worked with other things to make things work. The first person she met there was Hobie Brown, who called Poppy’s attention because of his guitar. She was trying to learn how to use the acustic guitar so they bonded over that for a while. The next person she met was Pavitr in a mission… Which was a disaster. They were informed that they would be working with another spider-person but didn’t know who, Poppy didn’t sense him because of her weak spider sense, and Pavitr was really knew. They waited for each other until they saw the villian and jumped into action… Only to his each other in the air and end up tangled. Even though there was some tension at first, they became best friends and worked better with each other than anyone else, specially since their age was so similar.
After many convincing from Miguel (because of different shenanigans) Poppy tried wearing contact lenses… An awful mistake, because she panicked after seeing Pavitr’s face. She thought her feelings were just a silly little crush that wouldn’t last long, but they prevaled for a long time… Which made Poppy take the decision to cut contact with him, since he was dating Gayatri and she didn’t want to keep on suffering over her feelings or make Pavitr uncomfortable if she ever opened up about them. He was heartbroken when she did that, and tried to get her to talk about what was happening to see if he could fix it. But there was no success.
Poppy has never been one to follow her mind, it was always her heart that was in control, so once when she was patroling Galways, she was overthinking her situation with Pavitr and didn’t notice a villian approaching her. She won the battle but ended up badly damaged. Her gizmo’s belt broke and lost it in her dimension as soon as she opened a portal to faint in the spider society headquarters. She had a huge hole on her stomach and has losing a lot of blood. She was taken to the infirmary by Hobie, that was, at the same type, trying to stop Pavitr from following them (to protect both of them since he knew about Poppy’s feelings). She was intervienen fast and was left in the infirmary so her vital would stabilized, with the bad luck that Cillian found the Gizmo and opened a portal to the infirmary. The alarms went off and everyone ran towards the infirmary but Poppy has disappeared.
For five years, Poppy was thought dead, but actually, she was being maintained alive in a suspension tank after Oktopus changed her stomach to a functional one. There was only one person that would defeat Spider-Heart, and that was him.
Even though she was thought dead, the fact that not another spider-person has taken her place in her dimension, made Miguel think that she was still alive, he would send people every now and then to keep the peace of her dimension while she was held captivate in a place unknown. After five years, Hobie, in one of his patrols in Galway, saw a man that made his spider sense activate, he followed the man secretly, ending up in the laboratory, seeing an older Poppy in a suspension tank. He went there back again the next day, seeing that he was not around, and broke the tank, taking Poppy in a blanket and knotting it against his back. The alarms of the laboratory went wild, but when Oktopus appeared, Hobie was not around… He was in a near building seeing the old scientist lose his mind.
Hobie Brown took Poppy to the spider headquarters, taken back to the infirmary. She would later wake up to not recognize anyone, not even her own body. She will have to learn how to adapt to the body of a 20 year old person, while trying to reconnect with old friends and family… Will she succeed on that? Or will she lose herself in the process?
