Astel was born human but blessed with minor amounts of the powers of the gods, thus making him a Demi-god; his role is to safeley lead the restless to the land of dreams and watch over the night. He is the ruler of Svefinyll, a snow clad kingdom known as a holy sanctuary filled with lots of gorgeous scenery and fantastic animals, a land of only peace.

One night Astels closest friend and handmaid had a terrible nightmare of the kingdom falling due to a wicked summoning of a powerful entity filled with chaos. In fear of this coming true he consulted with Astels priests, who warned him that if a nightmare is read incorrectly then such events will occur. In fear of incorrectly interpreting the nightmare the Handmaid went through the events of the summoning, and welcomed an entity known as Thal, which wound up possessing him. Unbeknownst to Astel, the possesed handmaid got close enough to him which caused the possession to hop hosts. Now possessing Astel, Thal flooded his kingdom with evil and anarchy, bringing it to ruins overnight.

Now Astel lives in his ruined kingdom alone, atop his throne he sits filled with deep despair. He is in a constant battle with Thal while she resides in his body, as the voice of evil tries to manipulate him to give it full control of the body.
