Profile
Sylvester "Cottonmouth" Landry
Uncanny • Charming • Eccentric
"There's been this vermin that's been biting my ass for the past few months, ugly as homemade sin that critter is. Suppose you find this beast, injure it, bring back a tooth, take a picture, anything, and I give you one item of your choosin' for free. You interested?""
A tzimisce that owns an oddity shop on the bayou with taxidermy that he himself made. He is also the creator of the legendary swamp monster (Dechigator), which he created in his own image. When he needs to feed, he goes out into the bayou and feeds on those who are exploring the bayou or even out hunting the legendary monster, unaware that he is the aforementioned monster. If he finds anything unique about something, he will add it to his taxidermy collection. He is just now dabbling in human taxidermy.
Notes
- Sylvester's eyes are false. They are just markings and he cannot see out of them. His real eyes are on the back of his hands.
- Sylvester's mouth is false. His jaw is locked and he cannot open them, even when speaking. His lips can move freely and emote. Much like his eyes, his true mouth is on the palms of his hands.
- Due to his sire disappearing upon being embraced, he does not know he is a vampire. He knows that he is a monster, but what kind if unbenownst to him.
- He has a pet rabbit named Fluffy, a graduation gift from Vince.

It began in Des Allemands, Louisiana, which at the time was a small community that was based on fishing and hunting. It was common to make a living there by selling furs and game meat, which is exactly what the Landry family did. Sylvester's single mother, Elois, ran a small fishing and pelt store to keep their heads afloat in the midst of the Stock Market Crash. Elois was a very busy woman, especially with taking care of Sylvester by herself as well as being the sole source of income. Her late husband's best friend, Vince Fleur was tasked with taking care of the baby while she ran the shop. Thus, Vince Fleur became a staple in Sylvester's life. Vince would teach Sylvester various survival skills, such as how to forage and hunt, navigating around the bayou, and how to gather lumber and start a fire. Growing older, Sylvester would often sneak out of work in the shop to go camping and hunting with Vince. Upon high school graduation, Vince gifted Sylvester with a pet Himilayan Rabbit appropriately named Fluffy, against the wishes of a distraught Elois. Living a somewhat sheltered life, government and politics at the time were not high on Sylvester's priority list, but growing up, the clash of creationism vs evolution, as well as civil rights movement served as an important turning point of Sylvester's interests, embracing diversity of ideals and cultures and welcoming them with open arms. The admiration of the new wave of justice and science served in Sylvester's art and sculptures, making taxidermy of creatures in the eyes of speculative evolution and folklore. These creatures were used from the animals and wildlife he would hunt with Vince, making use of unusable parts and attempting to help make some money in the midst of economic dispair.

Come the age of 25, Sylvester was embarking on another hunting trip with Vince. It had been a long while since Sylvester and Vince had an outing like this, as he had been very distant. He seemed to only be available in the dead of night, insisting that it was the best time to hunt. Sylvester found this peculiar, as Vince had complained in the past about the dark, greiving about getting lost and eaten by mosquitoes, which get worse at night. Not only this, but he seemed to be twitchy and on edge the entire night. As they rowed their boat down the bayou, the tension between the two grew and grew. Sylvester would try to make conversation, but Vince would not be reciprocative. In the bowels of the bayou, Vince would slow the boat to a stop and tell Sylvester to aim his shotgun down the bayou, as he sees a bear and the pelt would sell for a pretty penny. Sylvester aimed the gun into the night but could not see anything. As Sylvester turned his head to explain, he would see Vince, his mentor and family, turning into a grotesque beast. Gnashing teeth and crushing jaws was the last thing he saw before everything turned black. When he awoke, the boat was capsized, and he was washed up, tangled in submerged branches and vines, night still upon him. His blood was cold, his neck stung, he had a thirst for blood, and he was able to manipulate his body however he pleased. From that night, he was forever changed, condemned to be the beast he was forced into. Vince was to never be seen again.
Emeritus
Six months since the embrace, he had been struggling to adjust to his new life as a vampire, as he was alone with no support. Tzimisce are not what come to mind when traditional vampires are mentioned, so he is unaware that he is a vampire in itself, thus, he is unaware of customs and rules regarding vampires. He dislikes having to commit atrocities against humanity, like feeding. He moved away from Elois, claiming to have found a prosperous job opportunity in New Orleans and thus will help support her financially. There was some truth to this, but the aformentioned job opportunity was a ruse just to distance himself from her, unable to fathom the idea of her finding out his new lifestyle of killing and maiming. He set up his own oddity shop in New Orleans, entitled "Lightening Bug's Nest", to which he would keep creating his taxidermy monsters and sculptures. But, a vampire's got to feed. So, he created a local legend called "The Dechigator", which is a large, reptillian monster made of human flesh and bone that lived in the bayou, and promises money for whoever finds proof of such a creature.
Elois Landry is Sylvester's mother. She was mostly absent, busy with upholding the shop and keeping the money flowing. He does not hold a grudge and wants to give back to her and all of her efforts when he gets rich off of his art. They do not talk often, but they still care about each other. It's just been difficult since the embrace.
Fluffy is a mostly-blind Himalayan pet rabbit that Vince gave Sylvester as a graduation gift, against Elois' wishes. Fluffy is now a touchstone to Sylvester, baring the conviction of Your Own Survival Comes First.
Sylvester's sire. Vince and Sylvester were close growing up, Vince was like the dad Sylvester never had. But everything changed when Vince embraced Sylvester violently and disappeared, leaving him alone and struggling to survive as a newly kindred tzimisce.
"The Lady" is a mysterious supplier. Her products pay well and she is reliable. There is no malice towards her, but she is just... bizarre.
