This adopt isnt really the human, but rather the puzzle pieces. The puzzle pieces floats and latches on its host, melding into them and multiplying on the host until the host turns into another person.
The victim, however, is not the host. The host isn't affected in any way. The victim is someone who holds the host dear. The puzzle piece is only visible to the victim and turn the person they love into a person of the past, someone they dont want to see.
