Overview

STRYX is a soldier in the Polis' army, throwing herself into her duty after losing her closest relationships from the aftermath of the Prophecy taking hold. She's not seeking out companionship of any degree, often keeping to herself, despite how tired she feels of the isolation.

STRYX thinks she’s a walking corpse — only on the battlefield does she feel alive.

You received the gift of abundance… surely you can withstand the blessing of destruction.

Demeanor

Quirks & habits

Stryx is the type to primarily focus on her work and keep in shape for it. However, she also just likes to watch and collect information about her environment from the sidelines.

⟡ Habit of collecting bones, whether it be of wild animal or feline/canine origin.
⟡ As noted prior, she doesn’t commonly smile. Her tone is more flat, though can show anger.
⟡ Stryx still has some visible interest in various studies and will watch others with interest if it catches her eye.

Communication skills

STRYX may be brutally honest and speak her mind, but she mostly only speaks when prompted. It really isn't her specialty to socialize; rather, she feels awkward in situations that aren't about combat or serious topics.

Showing affection

STRYX isn't the affectionate sort, at least not openly. While she has had a partner before, she isn't the most willing to have relationships, whether platonic or romantic. They are quite cold and often shrug others off in order to deter them from trying to form any sort of bond with her.

In the case she is closer to someone, she is much more physically affectionate in small gestures, keeping it private more than trying to conduct PDA.

IN LIGHT.

  • Stryx was born to Tyton and Atropos, the two under Plentitude and War respectively. Stryx didn’t know her mother very well as she went MIA during the war, and as a result was closest with her father, wanting to follow in his footsteps. But when her mother’s items were returned to them, she eventually went to follow the Path of War, much to her father’s dismay.
  • She still currently leads a somewhat normal life as a soldier, though aloof to most others. Calliope, her partner, is the only one she is really close to besides her dad.

STRYX originally was not intended for the path of War; rather, she wanted to learn and grow like a rose, following her father's footsteps in Plentitude.

TYTON was a scholar, studying medicines and staying at home with his daughter. Unfortunately, STRYX'S mother wasn't necessarily part of her life due to often being off fighting in the war. ATROPOS would eventually be found missing in action, assumed to be deceased after being unable to locate her or her body. As a result, STRYX never truly had any deep mother-daughter bond in her life. For her, all that mattered was having her father there for her.
And TYTON doted on STRYX, not only because she was his only child, but because she was the last piece left of ATROPOS he had.

Eventually, ATROPOS' belongings would be returned to the family after some time. While STRYX wasn't entirely sure how to feel about the idea of having a reminder of the woman who gave birth to her and was barely there, she picked up the spear that once belonged to ATROPOS while sorting through the items.
Something clicked in her mind as she handled the weapon, though she still wasn't completely certain what it was. Holding the spear felt natural to her, as if she was supposed to.
STRYX just assumed it was because it was her mother's blade, nothing more to it.

Yet, as the years drew on, she grew less interested in medicinal knowledge and more in the art of combat. Without a proper teacher, she would solely rely on her own glimpses at what combat really was like, whether it was when she went with her father to army encampments or from stories she would overhear on her walks within the city.

That damn spear just kept beckoning her, and she couldn't resist heeding its call.

TYTON was... well, not entirely supportive of this shift. While he tried, he couldn't help but keep seeing ATROPOS in STRYX. That gave way into fear that he would one day lose his daughter in the same way if he let her follow her mother's footsteps.
When he would bring this worry up with STRYX, however, she would remain apprehensive. She wasn't entirely fond of the fact her father was trying to persuade her to not follow her heart after all this time of telling her that exact statement; such as older teens are, she was quite rebellious towards the idea of giving up the blade for education.

This was the driving rift between the two. While still on civil terms, they weren't as close as they once were. TYTON was home less often, taking on more jobs on-site, meanwhile STRYX would take up training towards learning how to fight with her mother's own spear. That's just how it was; they'd only ever truly talk during dinner or other instances they were both home. Otherwise, they were busy with their own things.
In the end, it made STRYX much more colder to the idea of being close and open with anyone; she wasn't the type for friends before, so she never truly had any other than her father.

However, she changed her demeanor when she encountered a wandering street artist named CALLIOPE. The other feline approached her in hopes to draw STRYX; noting something about how pretty she looked in the light of day, but wanted to try to draw her bathed in moonlight.
And STRYX at first was apprehensive about this introduction to CALLIOPE; the two hadn’t even exchanged names yet, for gods’ sake. Once pointed out, they finally introduced themselves — CALLIOPE laughing at how stiff STRYX would be in conversation.

Something about her laugh resonated with STRYX, though they couldn’t place it — perhaps it was because she hadn’t really managed to make others laugh before, since she lacked the proper social skills for it. It was unintentional, but it still struck a chord somewhere.
CALLIOPE rushed off in a hurry after their meeting and figuring out where to find each other — even though STRYX wasn’t keen on meeting the artist again, she couldn’t help but entertain the other. She wasn’t horrible company, at least.

They kept running into one another, time and time again — accidental meetings became purposeful, oftentimes STRYX would be the one to accept invites to go to different spots around the polis, as well as the outside when there were extremely gorgeous spots. At first, CALLIOPE said it was because STRYX was her best muse — yet drawing slowly became less of an excuse that was used, rather just spending time together.
STRYX was glad to have someone they could trust aside from their father. While on decent terms with him despite their disagreement, she felt like she could talk to CALLIOPE more freely. It was… surprisingly nice.

As they grew closer, STRYX felt something more in their relationship with CALLIOPE — wondering what exactly they would feel about it. She didn’t feel like she could talk to her father about it, but eventually cracked open to him after he took notice of her slight anxiety. She’d often pace and mutter to herself enough for him to ask why she was so flustered — eventually realizing what STRYX was feeling. His daughter’s first crush, he teased her a bit after telling her what she felt for CALLIOPE, in which STRYX would mock fistfight him for it while both of them laughed.

STRYX still wasn’t the one to confess, though. She was sort of a brick wall; admitting her feelings was difficult. So it fell on CALLIOPE to make that move — one night they were out on the town, where it was quieter without as much activity. CALLIOPE being carefree and skipping around, trying to get STRYX to follow suit — though STRYX wasn’t entirely going to. That left CALLIOPE to force STRYX to chase her down, so she simply skipped up to the white feline and kissed her cheek before running off.
STRYX — caught off guard and now a flustered wreck — obviously chased after her, tackling her as CALLIOPE laughed along, saying that she managed to get STRYX to play along after all. STRYX asked if she meant to do that — the kiss — she hesitantly says, obviously still a mess of thoughts and emotions. CALLIOPE just grabs STRYX’S face and kisses her again, before speaking up, “Does that answer your question?”
And so, they started dating from then on.

Some time passes, and the day they both were accepted into their respective paths: STRYX into War, while CALLIOPE into Euphoria. After everything, CALLIOPE rushes to embrace and kiss STRYX, excited about everything — even if STRYX’S Path was a little source of worry for her. The thought of STRYX being grievously injured or worse had been infiltrating her mind, but she always tries to not give it much time. Living in the moment was what mattered, and STRYX too.

TYTON would still celebrate the time STRYX is accepted into her chosen Path of War; while still apprehensive of the way his daughter turned to such a ruthless path, he couldn't help but still be her father and proud of her. She was strong and clever, able to handle her own if it came down to it...
She was just like her mother.

AFTER DARK.

  • TBA

STRYX is tired.
She doesn’t know why; just is. There’s dark circles under her eyes — though her markings make it hard to notice. Yet she notices.
Her fur is much more unkempt as a result of constantly going on patrol to keep herself busy. She needs to stay busy — if she’s not asleep, she’s on her feet doing something.

It got lonely, as much as STRYX hated to admit it. In the years following her father’s death and the breakup with CALLIOPE, the home felt emptier than ever. So, she decided to get a falcon with her earnings; she’s always adored the birds after all. A gyrfalcon — plumage that matches her own fur, no matter how dirty or bloody it may be after her post.
She names her ARTEMIS. Something her father said her mother would have wanted to name her, but went with his idea instead.

STRYX thinks she’s a walking corpse — only on the battlefield does she feel alive.
