Grom

An ornery old wyrm, Grom was once known as a great terror across the land. He looks back proudly on his long history of burning villages to ash, devouring entire herds of prize cattle, and giving the local landlords many grey hairs. Hundreds of brave slayers fell to him, none able to oust him from the countryside. Until one day a lone adventurer bearing a burning blade finally drove him from the kingdom. In his great shame at being humbled, he fled to the wastes. 

These days, he lives alone in a ruined watchtower overlooking a desolate mountain pass, preying on the occasional traveller not fast enough to escape his fire. 

If you approach this less than hospitable old hermit with courtesy and a few gifts, he may just humor you long enough for a small chat. Long lived as he is, he's vastly knowledgable about the land and it's history. Including many secrets mankind has forgotten.
