Rainingflower has always had an empathetic soul, caring deeply for his clanmates to the point of almost feeling their pain. He freely gives gifts and checks on those he loves to make sure that they are doing well. He always considers the feelings of others.

Being taught by Starlingspot raised a strong patience in Rainingflower. He knows the merits of waiting, the merits of diplomacy, and the fact that good things come to those who wait and do not give up.

H I S T O R Y

Kid [ 0 - 6 Moons ]

Rainingkid was born to Gorseeye and Websong, a pair of strong warriors in Currentclan. Websong was an excellent fisherwoman, and Gorseeye a powerful fighter (so powerful, he had earned his name losing his right eye in a border battle with the other clans). Rainingkid was expected to be a warrior, and his parents encouraged him to play hunting and fighting games with the other kids in the dens. But Rainingkid was very soft hearted, and while playful, he preferred to tell jokes and look after the other kids rather than fight them. He was drawn to the aged Medicine Cat Starlingspot. Starlingspot was also gentle and kind, and this fostered Rainingkid's interest in medicine, to his parents' (particularly his father's) disappointment.

Apprentice [ 6 - 12 Moons ]

Rainingkinder was pleased to be in Starlingspot's care, and Starlingspot was glad to finally have an apprentice to pass his knowledge down onto before he retired. Websong was supportive of her son in his decision, finally having come to terms with it, but Rainingkinder's relationship with Gorseeye became estranged. His father could not and would not understand his decision, both to turn to medicine and also to accept a future where he could not continue the bloodline, which hurt Rainingkinder deeply. He couldn't reconcile with his father no matter how he tried, Gorseeye choosing to disown his son instead of see eye to eye with him. Heartbroken, the apprentice turned to Starlingspot for comfort, and the elderly man reciprocated with paternal care as best he could, hoping to be a better father figure to Rainingkinder than Gorseeye had been.Once Rainingkinder had worked through his heartbreak over his father, he threw himself into his work, forming fast bonds with the rest of the members of Currentclan as he ran errands happily for Starlingspot. He tended to even the smallest wounds, gifted poultices, and even began to work on his own concoctions. His diligence warmed the hearts of the clan, especially Starlingspot who, as time passed, became more confident in Rainingkinder's abilities and more content in his choice of successor. It was with pride that Starlingspot looked at Rainingkinder on the day that he was given his true name - a name that he had earned with hard work alone: Rainingflower, for his kindness. 

Medicine Cat [ 12 -> Moons ]

Rainingflower was incredibly pleased with his new role as a fully fledged Medicine Cat, feeling fully content with his position within the clan. Over a few moons Starlingspot handed over duties, easing Rainingflower into the full workload he would bear for the rest of his life, until finally the old cat settled into retirement. Rainingflower's heart was warmed by the sight of his mentor resting peacefully in camp, and often visited the elder's den more than was strictly necessary to take care of his surrogate father. On a cool summer evening, Starlingspot passed. Rainingflower wept heavily as he laid the man's lifeless body into the waves of the ocean, wishing that Starclan take care of him for now on.Only a few moons later the chill of winter came early, and with it a terrible sickness that swept the clan. His clanmates, friends, people he considered his family ill, Rainingflower worked all hours to find some sort of cure or at least palliative treatment. As more and more became sick, he was overwrought with despair. He had thought this came naturally to him, he had been drawn to it at such a young age, and yet he felt like no matter what he tried he failed. One night, he went out to the shore and sobbed, shouting questions at the sea, at Starclan, at Starlingspot. What was he to do? He stayed there, on the beach, until the sun rose, and the morning tide washed a gift to him. A particular type of sea moss that he had not tried to use as a cure, despite it now seeming so obvious. He gazed into the pink morning sky and sobbed, this time with joy, clutching the plant in his hands. Only days later, burning the moss had helped the ill clanmates to breathe clearly again, and their chests slowly emptied of dark phlegm. Since then, Rainingflower has a strong belief in Starclan, and that has guided him through many moons of work until now. He loves his job, but also play - indulging in humour and pleasure when he can. If anyone knows how short life can be, it's a Medicine Cat after all. He stands beside Hailstar proudly, caring for his clan as if they were his children (and he knows they are the only children he will have). His father's disdain for him, even after Rainingflower's healing has helped him more than once, has not wained, and every now and then Rainingflower will feel it like a knife in his back. But more often than not, he can be seen smiling as he wanders the coasts and shores, using a knife to slice and gather roots, weeds and other ingredients.
