Meet Mr. Richard Mortis, also known as "The Harbinger [of Death]" in some circles. Though this southern-born buzzard has no bell around his neck, the jangle of his spurs strikes the same fear into every heart that hears it when he strolls into town. Despite profusely denying the stereotypes that surround his kind, the hand of death seems to follow him still; in many parts, he is considered a bad omen.
Yet, what has he done to deserve such a rotten reputation? No one seems to know, nor does anyone seem to care, so long as he stays far, far away. He may seem like an innocent and benevolent old man on the outside, but from shoot-outs in the street to violent burglaries, it all usually happens just after Mr. Mortis has made a visit. Just as often have been reported sightings of foul-smelling "undead" creatures near the scene of the crime. However, nothing has ever been traced back to him; and so it is said that he is merely the Harbinger: the warning that death approaches.
