"Good day! Good day! I bring you word of my travels! Stories that will both amaze and concern you—"

Nie Minshu (Mimi) is the son of De Wenyi, a spirit goddess of Mercy and Justice, and an adventurer seeking to travel all across the mortal realms.

He is a yaojing, born to Nie Ci’an, and one of the sole surviving demigods left in the mortal realm after more than half were massacred by Luan Zhou as a display of power against the goddess of spring. He is often introduced as “Mimi” a nickname given to him by his mother when he was little as an inside joke, and he does not correct people when they address him as such accidentally keeping his birth name private throughout most of his journey.

He is a demigod but due to his mortal status is not recognized as a member of the pantheon, thus rendering himself unable to perform any blessed acts or accept prayers and other acts of worship. He is also the oldest sibling in his family.

Brief Story

Nie Minshu is a spirit demigod who was born to Nie Ci’an a few years after the Kingdom of Aesha fell to its civil war. He was raised by their grandparent—Airan—when his mother was busy. In his youth he was almost killed by the ancient god Luan Zhou who learned of his whereabouts from a mortal in exchange of having their life spared from a storm and forced De Wenyi to fight the god to keep Minshu from being drowned. The gods’ wrath came to an end at Shou Gezhe’s interference, proposing that Luan Zhou curse the child instead of murdering them entirely; Minshu was cursed to never enter the open sea again and De Wenyi bestowed him with a blessing for his own protection. Minshu does not remember this incident and only remembers that it spurred a deep fear of the water and became unable to learn to swim, a trait that continues to the present day.

When Minshu came of age and learned everything he could from their mother and grandparent about the gods and myths, Minshu decided to leave the Spirit Kingdom and fill his journal with stories of his own.

During his travels, Minshu walked through the ruins of Aesha, a kingdom full of dragonborn spirits, that was protected by the Resonant, a dragon-spirit that towered over the mountains before being changed and put to eternal sleep as a battle tactic before the war. There, he stumbled upon the palace and found ruins of the royal family and stayed to study the scriptures and decipher their meanings. Throughout the week, Minshu spotted wandering spirits and followed them throughout the ruined kingdom to find new information about the king and his siblings’ history. He later met Juzhi, a spirit summoner that was presumed dead after the war, and the two bonded shortly over the history of Spirits and their legends.

Juzhi taught Minshu how to read certain languages and how to decipher sigils left in the ruins of the palace. He also taught Minshu how to dance and how to incorporate magic into it via scirtomancy. After the week was over, Juzhi accompanied Minshu for a while before the two parted ways again after Juzhi reunited with his younger twin sister, Fengye. Juzhi promised to meet Minshu again in the future and Minshu writes letters to him alongside his family to update him on his travels. He fondly remembers Juzhi as an “eccentric but well-meaning man, even if he is a little careless at times.” He is still thankful to Juzhi for mentoring him and for all his teachings.

  • He is a polyglot and speaks various languages.
  • He has connections to shadow magic but rarely uses it (ex. his sword and main outfit are made of shadows).
  • He has partial immortality due to his mother being a goddess but he can still die in battle.

The Moon Will Sing

  • His eyes and markings glow under moonlight.
  • He is linked to moonflowers, being surrounded by them can heal most wounds.
  • Minshu can walks over water during a full moon and has a strong connection to small bodies of water despite his hydrophobia.
