It also allows the user to remember anything they put their mind to with full clarity, so long as it occurred after they obtained the ability.)

Backstory: 

• Separated from his family at a young age. Even now, try as he might, he can't recall their names or faces.
• Listless, Shion was eventually stumbled upon by Hayato—a northern shrike, similar in age. He was invited to join the other's group and, having nowhere else to go, Shion accepted.
• The group had been cutthroat. During their stay, Shion and Hayato had been bullied ruthlessly by it's other members; Shion due to being meeker than the rest and Hayato smaller. This would ultimately lead to their dispersal.
• Following this, they'd eventually be taken in by the Spirit Keepers. Both would swear the oath and, at the time, mean it. It'd then be revealed that while Shion was capable of receiving a lock, Hayato was not.
• Over time, this "disparity" would cause Hayato to fester. Having felt powerless his entire life, Hayato longed for something—like an ability—to help "even the playing field." This desire would be preyed upon by the Dark Souls, resulting in Hayato defecting to their side. 
• Shion would find out about Hayato's double-crossing, much to their shock and horror. Hayato, who'd always been good at twisting Shion's paw, would try convincing them not to say anything to the other Spirit Keepers. Shion, who deeply depended on Hayato and feared what would happen to him should his treason come to light, initially waffled on what to do. In the end, however, they alerted Queen Mizu. This would cause their Spirit Lock to unlatch, but it'd be a hollow victory.
• To this day, Shion struggles to connect with others out of fear of betrayal. It's hard to trust when you can recall every contradiction and slight at a moments notice.

• For a canine, Shion's an exceptionally skilled climber. Being a corsac fox, scaling rockfaces came semi-naturally to him. Tree-climbing, however, was the result of him trailing after Hayato. As a kit, he'd oftentimes perch in a bid to avoid bullies. Nowadays, he does it so he can survey battles effectively and people-watch within the guild; his ability letting him act as a living surveillance system.
• The differing ways Shion's been shown to wear his cheek fur is meant to symbolize his reliance on Hayato. During his adolescence, Shion's cheek fur is pulled together—entwined—representing their codependency. As an adult, though, each side is independently tied. This is meant to show they've become their own individuals...for better and worse.
