Jeane

Jeane is an awkward, anxious man with no idea how to function around other people. He does far better alone, and his closest friends are the types of people who expect very little out of him. It isn't social anxiety so much as he doesn't know what to say or do around others.

Most people find him unpleasant as he tends to speak his mind without realizing how his words could be perceived, or he generally behaves inappropriately, such as interrupting people or walking away mid-conversation. On top of that, he has trouble understanding other people; he takes everything at face value and has trouble deciphering mood based on visual cues. He's incredibly gullible, because he trusts people not to lie to him.

Jeane comes across as a really boring person with nothing to say. He has more to show, preferring not to have to speak as his mind always scrambles up whatever he's trying to say. He's a very kind and gentle person that wants to help people; he likes to cuddle, he likes to provide for people, he likes to keep on top of whatever's going on in people's lives to make sure they're doing okay. He remembers more about people than they likely do about themselves; though he also feels like he's probably not supposed to be this way, due to the fact that his sister snaps at him for this sort of thing.

It might surprise people to learn that Jeane actually has a lot of casual sex—mostly by visiting the more laidback gay clubs in the area to get a feel for people in person. Despite this, he's never had a stable relationship, and tends to only sleep with someone once before they're out of his life entirely. This isn't because he deliberately ghosts them; it's mutual. It's unlikely they even knew each other's names beforehand. To Jeane, it's just a case of fulfilling an urge, and he doesn't have much trouble finding men that are willing to sleep with him. This experience makes him more skilled than one would expect considering his sheepish, awkward attitude.

He's incredibly stoic and doesn't emote much in general. All the same, he rarely cries or smiles; he's never actually laughed in his entire life, and claims he doesn't know how to do it. Anxiety prevents him from attempting to do things that are too noisy, like learning to whistle; he didn't know how to clear his throat for the longest time. He's also the type to suffocate because he refuses to cough when he's choking on something.

As a child, Jeane was swapped constantly between his parents who lived in France and his aunt and uncle who live in the UK. His parents expected him to be as unobtrusive as possible; silent, invisible. Though he was always very obedient it was never enough, and they handed him off to his aunt and uncle who were far too lenient. They didn't pay attention to him at all, which made him very nervous. There was no middle ground, it's either too much structure or none.

The birth of his sister complicated things. At the start, he didn't like her because babies are too loud, and made his caretakers very cranky. When they were in the care of their aunt and uncle, Jeane had to do most of the childcare or else it just wouldn't get done. He hated it and would refuse to do a lot of it until she got old enough to do the gross things for herself. At that point, he started to like caring for her. It felt like he was doing something right; his caretakers approved, and his actions had direct, observable results. This didn't last very far into her life, though, as she started to hate him for being too doting. Unlike Jeane, Madeline wanted to be left alone, while there was always a part of Jeane that wanted the love of a parent enough to try to give it to Madeline.

His aunt and uncle are both drunks; his aunt abuses his uncle who is completely passive to it. They aren't unkind to the children in their care, they just hate each other, and his uncle is an easy target. Though Jeane has no idea, his uncle is also incredibly creepy to young girls.

As a result of their lifestyle, Jeane had his first taste of alcohol at a really young age—after finding a bottle in the kitchen at child height, he drank enough of it to get drunk to the extent that he spent all night throwing up. The experience made him hate drinking, and he never touched a drink ever again. He also gets extremely uncomfortable around drunk people or when seeing someone with a drink in hand.

Jeane kept his head down in school, avoiding attention as much as he possibly could and just doing whatever he was told. Some people considered him to be a bit of a teacher's pet, when really he was just scared of getting yelled at or otherwise punished in the way his parents would. Any friends or lovers were just people that attached themselves to him for one reason or another and he didn't have it in him to tell them to leave him alone. Some of them, he actually liked, but he barely remembers the people that hung around him in school. Most of the time, when he started to know people, he also started to fuck up, and inadvertently made people hate him. He didn't know what went wrong so he just stopped doing things, stopped talking, became like a shadow, a yes man, whatever you want. It isn't until later in life that he meets people that are more like him, people he can open up to and attempt to articulate his thoughts and feelings to without derision.

Not far into high school, his parents left him with his aunt and uncle and literally never returned. After his graduation, his aunt and uncle emigrated for work-related reasons and took both Kara children with them. Jeane has had trouble holding down a job, and barely passed high school, so university was never really on the table; he's too anxious to go busking so overall he struggles financially. Most of the money he's ever made went to his violin and other musical equipment. More than once he's had a man offer to sugar daddy him but he always turns them down. He has no idea why men are so attracted to him, and thinks they must be making fun of him or pitying him. Most of these men are attracted to his height, but his attitude can also come across as "adorable" and "sweet". Other men like him because he's blunt and can say sexual things that make his partners blush (without realizing he's dirty talking). With his casual encounters, he can also come across as controlling or bossy without intending to, which appeals to submissive men.

• He wears headphones whenever he goes out into public, usually playing loud music to cover up everything around him. He spends a lot on noise cancelling headphones.
• Typically always wearing gloves as he has intense sensory issues
• Wears a crystal pendant made out of a chewable material for stimming, otherwise he'll chew headphone cords without noticing and break them
• Simultaneously a native French and English speaker in a way that he fucks up both languages
• He has generalized anxiety and autism
• If he didn't cut and meticulously style his hair, it would curl out of control and become annoying to deal with (in his opinion)
• Like his sister, he has vitiligo, but it's hidden by his clothes. The pattern covers the mid-lower left side of his torso, and extends down to his genitals and inner thighs but mostly avoids his hips. His right leg has a large splotch on the upper leg, and he has splotches on both of his arms.
