Making his way from head guard of the Tides, to the personal guard of the "royal family", Marshel has always had a knack for keeping Pokemon away from where they shouldn't be. He is built to defend those he cares about and is prepared for any threat that may come their way. As Cadmus' family guard, he consistently keeps tabs on the god and his family, keeping track of the company they keep to make sure they aren't spending time with anyone dangerous.
The Tusktew-Umbreon joined the Tides of the Moon after his previous home started to shun him for his unsettling aura and intimidating gaze. However, as the members of the Tides have begun to realize since he's been there, that is simply just the way he looks and sounds. It's good for outsiders to keep away if they aren't welcome, but there is a soft spot that he lets others see, as he has the chance to express himself there where he's never been able to before. He loves his home, and would do whatever it took to protect it.
