Yuni

Yuni has worked in Search & Rescue for most of their life. They grew up in a busy, bustling city and found it untenable. Too much noise, the hustle & bustle, it all grated on their nerves. They moved out to a quiet, remote wooded area up north and enjoyed taking long walks alone in nature, just enjoying the sights and sounds on their own. They got to know the woods well enough that they decided to volunteer their talents towards helping those who got lost.

Yuni is a bit of a loner, preferring their own company to that of others, but they're not heartless and it always feels good when they can help someone out using their unique knowledge of the area. Though Search & Rescue is a difficult field that carries many hardships and heartbreaks, they take pride in their work knowing that they can help reunite loved ones or get someone home safe. They thought they knew everything about these woods, until they met the giant.

They were on the trail of a lost hiker when they first saw him. It was late at night and they had only their glowing tail for light - they never carried a flashlight, no need for it when they supplied their own light. The soft green glow illuminated a hulking form nearly twice their height, with the lost hiker held in its arms. They were too stunned to scream and merely stared up with mouth agape. It regarded them for a moment, then gently lowered the hiker to the ground and walked away into the woods. By the time Yuni had recovered, it was gone, leaving only massive bootprints behind. They didn't have time to chase it though - the night was cold and the hiker's coat was torn. Hypothermia would be setting in if it hadn't already. They got the hiker home and sat up all night keeping watch.

That wasn't the last time they would meet the creature, and as time went on they grew less and less afraid. Despite his intimidating size, it seemed to be docile, even friendly. Maybe one day they'll meet off the clock and have time to ask it some questions.
