chapter i.

She lives with her brother in a small town that’s…far enough away from the big city. It might be more accurate to say she lives alone, since her brother is there maybe one night each month. She doesn’t keep close contact with her siblings, but they both drop by every so often.

Alongside some of the few other young people in the town, she delivers packages. Lots of people are familiar with her and her colleagues’ faces since they’re always around to drop off deliveries! While she’s not particularly famous or anything of the sort, the old ladies are fond of her. Although due to her appearance and mannerisms, sometimes they mistake her for a guy…

During the earlier days of her job she met Oriane, one of the orchard farmhands (a child of the owner, actually. Nepotism?) They became fast friends, somehow they just had a natural affinity for each other! Nox wonders if they were also friends in a past life.

chapter ii.

Nox was one of the five children in the “Quasi-Construct Project.” She bears a mark on her chest as a reminder. The project was meant to test the limits of the human body, specifically how closely humans and parasitic alien creatures known as “constructs” could be integrated. Through underhanded means the head researchers conducted inhumane experiments on the test subjects, and in the end only two of the subjects survived.

To answer their question: too much construct “DNA,” and the subject will overload from the sheer power and die. Too little, and the subject will be left in an almost catatonic state, unable to move or speak. Nox and the other survivor were extremely lucky.

Her rescuers claimed to be her cousins. She opted to refer to them as siblings instead. If they’re telling the truth, then she’s probably not a homunculus. She wants to know the truth of her identity, but she’s too afraid to go back.
