Koto

Once upon a time a mage created a cursed artifact. Once upon a later time, Koto started trying to keep it out of other animals' paws (and hands, and talons, etc.)--to varying degrees of success. Sometimes she wonders if the curse placed on it affects her, too, if it's magically influencing people to not listen to a word she says.

Or maybe everyone is just dumb. That's also likely.
