Rhode Island views himself as better than everyone else. He’s so full of himself that he doesn’t acknowledge that he’s actually just… average. He’s ultra competitive, everything is a game or competition that can be played. When something goes wrong, Rhode Island is so dense that he can’t see that it can be his fault at times. He’s quick to blame others if things don’t go as planned. There’s times where he is kickass, but that always fills his ego.
He sleep talks too and gets car sick :(
Regarding Project Freelancer and the AI’s—
Rhode Island is foaming at the mouth to obtain an AI. Surprisingly, this isn’t in one of his competitive ways. Since Rhode believes he’s so awesome, he doesn’t feel like he needs an AI to help him. Essentially, he just wants to experience the feeling of having an AI. So when a different agent gets an AI, Rhode Island is kind of like “guess they needed the extra hand out in the battlefield” kind of view.
MIA—
He’s on a mission with other freelancers (idk what they’re doing but they’re in a building). (Shortly after the break in. So maybe they’re trying to get the armor from other ex freelancers). Things get complicated and there’s a bomb involved. Rhode gets full of himself and says that he can disarm the bomb. The others stand by the doorway as they look out. However, the bomb is more complex than any others Rhode had worked on. The bomb ends up exploding. They try to regroup but Rhode Island is nowhere to be found. Doing a quick sweep to find him, they find his battered helmet and they can’t find the rest of him. So they conclude that he had an armor malfunction and was vaporized by the explosion since he was the closest. They leave the scene only for Rhode Island, who was knocked unconscious, to wake up buried under rubble.
When the bomb went off, his EOD helmet did its job of protecting him from potential decapitation. However the shockwaves sent Rhode Island, and debris, scattered. His helmet had been knocked off when he had hit objects after getting launched by the shockwaves. The floor they were on collapsed and Rhode was covered in debris, making it impossible to see him. At this time, the other freelancers he was working with were trying to locate him. They found his busted helmet and concluded that, though the helmet was made for explosive protection, his armor wasn’t as durable and Rhode Island and his armor were evaporated by the explosion.
So he wakes up, alone and severely injured, unable to call command because they took his cool helmet. Rhode is fed up by being left behind and, instead of just finding a way to rendezvous back, turns his back on project freelancer (he probably has a concussion so he’s not thinking clearly). He now has a mind set of “they don’t deserve me.” Perhaps he now tries to hunt down other freelancers just to prove his worth and strength
Post Freelancer bio:
Rhode Island figures that he’s severely injured after being in an explosion. He can’t fight a healthy freelancer in this state, he can barely even walk. With his current mindset, Rhode Island decides to go to Outpost-19 where he knows Penn is (he figures that she won’t and can’t rat him out and her team will give him medical care). Anyway, he gets there and decides to stay there for a few days to get back on his feet. Penn asks him to join the Red team. Rhode Island, out of spite and wanting competition, instead asks Dalton if he could join the Blue team. He joins the Blue team and goes solely as ‘Rhode’ to cut ties from his freelancer days.
