Shidao Lang

Shidao is a daoshi working with LTM. The emotions they express most are indifference, lack of amusement,  and irritation. They have a cold demeanour and mince no words when it  comes to interacting with most people. Underlying their serious disposition is a juvenile sense of humour and a lack of ability to take  care of themself.

Shidao grew up in a Shaolin temple and was regarded as a prodigy. However, martial arts were not enough to satisfy their curiosity, and they began to spend more time in the temple’s archives. Their interest lay mostly in forbidden knowledge – when they were caught practicing on a corpse from the graveyard, they were exiled.

Moving to the city was a rocky adjustment for them. Being unfamiliar with just about everything, they were like a fish out of water; this only excited them more. While peddling their services as a daoshi in the city’s underground scene, they befriended a back-alley doctor. The two began to work together, and the doctor taught them everything there is to know to blend in.
Things didn’t last long. A group of rough customers came by one day demanding the revival of one of their companions. Shidao refused after the blatant disrespect they showed the doctor. The customers didn’t take the rejection kindly, and violence ensued. The doctor lost her life to protect Shidao; she ended up becoming the first fresh corpse they reanimated. Eventually, Shidao forged ties to LTM, providing their services on a contract basis.

Shidao has  a large amount of range in their arsenal. Their meteor hammer covers a lot of distance while close-up hazards are kept at bay through kicks. They work best at midrange as a result, where both of these attack styles overlap. They can use talismans to imbue their meteor hammer with different properties. Their idle stance also essentially creates a barrier in front of them that prevents direct contact (i.e. touch and grab) but does not stop attacks.

• Shidao abandoned their birth name long ago; they have no attachment to  their current name either and are simply using it for legal purposes.
• They enjoy doing newspaper crosswords.
• They are awful at cooking and thus usually stock up on frozen meals. They are also awful at calligraphy, so they order their talismans from Sumeer instead.
