Profile

By day, Kanbito blends in with the humans of Mugenkyō as the owner of a long-standing traditional-style theatre. Cynical and lacking in patience, they've got the air of someone much older than their appearance.
As the theatre owner, they carefully select actors and scripts that appeal to their high standards, frequently holding "film festivals" to determine what shows are worth putting on in their venue.

By night, Kanbito sheds their disguise to return to their more demonoid form as the branch's demon warlord. Arrogant with a side of a god complex, they consider all other beings below them, with few qualms with playing with the lives of humans. As a warlord, their judgment and impatience are magnified as their hunger grows for entertainment. Though their standards are rather arbitrary, subjects they tend to mind the most amusing are the misery and foolishness of others - so long as that foolishness doesn't cross the line of annoying them. Being a baku, Kanbito feeds off of the constant dreams that their humans experience - and the more entertaining they find them, the more energizing they are.

Though they have all sorts of illusory abilities that are great for psychological torment, once they are physically cornered they have little in the way of defense. Using the pine tree on the horizon of Mugenkyō as a form of surveillance, they keep a constant eye on the state of things (mostly to scout interesting storylines and individuals for their theatre).

Misc

  • While they're generally reserved, they have a very raucous and unbecoming laugh, and it is difficult for them to put themself together again once they've gotten started.
  • Their true form is like a combination of an elephant, tapir, and a tiger. Legends say their gaze is piercing enough to curse you.
  • They've got multitudes of non-human attendants to help run operations. Tasks range from writing and keeping track of citizens' scripts, taking care of special effects/lighting/curtains and other behind the scenes, physical labour, and so on. Unfortunately, they're not very useful as guards,
Likes: Entertainment (people being made fools of), tradition, patterned fabric, high art, tea
Dislikes: Boredom (definition of boredom varies), modern technology, modern music, cellphones (audience members who take them out mid-show or forget to put them on silent: die)
