MGS oc • They/Them

-Victim of the same experiments as Ymir and Hilda. The genes they were combined with are that of the Eastern imperial eagle

-The first successful experiment within "the flock" (first to survive their genetic changes, that is), and highly treasured by the faculty as a result. Love-bombed and sheltered, Hyperopia trauma bonds with their captors, becoming unflinchingly loyal to the compound that is the only home they've ever known

-Hy is molded into a child soldier, taught how to murder before even entering adolescence. They become a scout and sharpshooter, their emotions numbed and reactions deadened; killing goes from horrific to little more than a mindless task

-Despite this, they care deeply for the flock and watch over them as a mentor, founder perhaps, of sorts. These kids are particularly vulnerable, however, and many of them die over time. Hyperopia is deeply traumatized by the countless deaths of their friends, and is especially fucked up when any of the younger children die

-Said trauma leads to them cracking down on how the other kids speak. They refuse to hear of anyone's previous experiences living outside of the compound; they won't tolerate any dissent. The kids who died had to have done so for a reason... to think of their lives as pointless and wasted is too cruel. Hy doubles down on toxic loyalty to prove in some twisted way that their friends meant something

-Eventually, themself and Sky are the only surviving flock members. Hyperopia, misinterpreting how the latter feels and seeing them as a heartless enemy, begins to despise their counterpart. This hatred is supposedly proven when Sky helps destroy the compound, obliterating Hy's home, killing those who didn't believe the warning. They try to confront the other flock member, but end up unconscious

-From that point on, Hyperopia's loathing is ironclad. They hate Sky, they hate the man who helped them destroy everything, they hate themself for not stopping it in time. These feelings fester and reinforce themselves for years on end as Hy continues to serve their captors, too deep within the abusive dynamic to escape. Their hands are stained with the blood of countless targets

-But when they are one day assigned to kill escapees of the compound who were finally unearthed after hiding for so long, the part of Hyperopia that loved the flock breaks through once more, and they know this is the one line they cannot cross

-This leads to them contacting Sky again

-The rest is still up in the air, but they eventually break free of their captors at last
