A traveler from the distant lands, and a guest within the Overcast City. After receiving an anonymous message from this strange, reclusive land, Mayumi made the decision to pursue a potential mystery and unearth what awaits her there. She and her young apprentice Naoto find lodgings with Carmilla's family, and the duo are met with considerable hospitality; in time, they are considered to be family as well, despite their status as outsiders. Mayumi continues her work as a private investigator, but the city is not a place that will easily give its secrets. Paranoia is rampant under the stone eyes of the gods Crime and Punishment, and even rare visitors must closely watch what they do and say. Mayumi can only wonder what lurks at the heart of this place. Though it might not be her business in truth, she and her apprentice are soon thrust into the midst of events well beyond their control. Answers might arrive sooner than she thinks-but at what cost?

Mayumi is a stoic, distant woman who rarely forms deep connections with other people due to a mixture of both her upbringing and past trauma. Despite valuing calm stillness and quiet environments, she has a strong affection for the upbeat and social nature of her apprentice, and tolerates the occasionally chaotic atmosphere of their current home. The bonds she has formed are few, but ironclad; she will endure hell and high water for her loved ones. Her demeanor rarely changes no matter the turmoil in her heart. If powerful emotions show on her face, it's a sign that Mayumi's composure has broken utterly, whether for good or ill. No matter what, her sense of curiosity and desire for knowledge is always present. Mayumi isn't as good at minding her business as one might expect. She hates to be in the dark, and her occupation as a private investigator means she's accustomed to poking around, even in places she is meant to stay away from. Risk and consequences rarely deter her, which is perhaps her most prominent flaw. Naoto has been picking up on some of her behaviors, and Mayumi isn't certain of her feelings about it. On one hand, it feels uplifting to be someone's inspiration after so many years spent in cold, unyielding isolation. On the other, Mayumi knows she likely makes for a poor role model.
