Maria

Backstory

Maria grew up on a small farm with her Ma and Pa and her seven other siblings. A middle child in the midst of her large family, she often found herself lost in the commotion. When she wasn't helping take care of her younger siblings. She liked to sneak away to the barn and spend time with the animals. She preferred spending time with her father to her mother, while he was more emotionally distant, she felt a deeper connection with him. She enjoyed helping him with chores around the farm. When he had to slaughter livestock, she always found her eyes lingering longer than she would like to admit.

Maria's relationship to death and violence was strained. She felt an interest in her about the darker things in life, but her family were devoutly religious and so she always had kindness and empathy drilled into her head. Despite this, she started to stray further and further from these beliefs, and eventually ran away, feeling that she had a darkness in her that wasn't suited to be around her family.

Act 3

Maria struggled on the road. She'd never actually been out on her own before, and her time off the farm was incredibly limited, only ever leaving to accompany her father when he would sell meat or other goods. Strangers were either too cruel or too kind, and she couldn't understand what others' intentions were towards her.

Alone in the woods one night she was sitting by her open fire, when a stranger approached her. He has a sickening smile and looked like every bad man Maria had had the displeasure of meeting. Fumbling for her dagger, she couldnt grab it in time before he stomped down on her wrist, pinning her in place. Before anything could spiral further out of control, an arrow bloomed from his shoulder, and he screeched in pain, stumbling away from Maria, and back into the woods. An elven woman emerged from the shadows, eyes glowing in the firelight, and Maria knew she was in love.
