Anubis is my original sona and the first Egyptian Feathered Night Fury ever created.
Anubis's design is inspired by the famous statue of Anubis.
His creation, as well as the EFNF species, predates the now-canon lore involving Ra, the Seven, and the Followers of the gods, hence why his name is the same as the god he is descended from!
After Anubis's parents died during the Great Famine, he was taken in by an embalmer from a minor temple of the City of the Sun and grew up surrounded by the concept of death and afterlife. While learning the trade, he came to be fascinated about the process of preparing deceased bodies, the study of anatomy, and the rituals performed to ensure a safe journey beyond the mortal realm.
When he was old enough, he enrolled in the Academy of Thoth to achieve a greater, more enlightened understanding of what it can truly mean to be an embalmer and explore his potential. During detention one night, he, Corcyra, Solaris, and the mortal Ra (disguised as a professor) are attacked by followers of Apophis and they are revealed to be descendants of Anubis, Isis, and Sekhmet, respectively. Together, they travel the mortal and immortal realms searching for the other Followers to rally the power of the gods and defeat Apophis.
During this adventure, Anubis struggles to reconcile the pain and suffering caused by Apophis and his servant, and fellow Follower, Djserite, particularly when they kill the embalmer who raised him. While experiencing real grief and anger for the first time, he learns that revenge, even in the name of justice, will only continue the cycle of violence. Following the fall of Apophis and the death of Djeserite, Anubis eventually goes into law and writes the Code of Ma'at to reform the justice system into one of kindness, sympathy, and mercy and abolishes the death penalty.
