Personality

Unrulystorm is a cat with many layers. He comes off as cold and unconcerned, but underneath is overtly cautious and watchful. Due to the fox attack which led to his physical disibilities, he also has an irritable core that gets frustrated during his bad days.

Unrulystorm is known amongst apprentices as a stern and feared mentor. Among the clan, he's described as reliable and a "force to be reckoned with." Aspenshade especially speaks highly of Unrulystorm's character, noting that he would make an excellent deputy one day.

While Unrulystorm has never said so outloud, he has zero ambitions to become leader of the clan.

Background

Unruly was born to Desert, a kittypet-turned-loner that explored the territories of the clans at her discretion. After Desert joined Birchclan, Unruly, now dubbed Unrulykit by the clan cats, was accepted as one of their own.

As an apprentice, he was given the new name Unrulypaw and trained by senior warrior Joltedstrike. Joltedstrike made it clear to Unrulypaw that after he finished his training, the tom cat planned to retire. Unrulypaw felt that it was his duty to be the best warrior he could be, to be a reliable source of pride for the old cat.

Many moons later, Unrulypaw was a nearly full-grown cat just a few assessments away from becoming a fully fledged warrior. Joltedstrike's daughter, Dunepaw, had since been apprenticed and was now one of Unrulypaw's denmates. Another new denmate was a large apprentice named Aspenpaw, who quickly became one of Unrulypaw's admirations.

Unrulypaw silently pined for Aspenpaw for many moons before eventually growing out of his crush and seeing the apprentice for the strong, level-headed cat he was without the rose-tinted glasses. He, Aspenpaw, and Dunepaw created a tight circle of trust.

As the senior apprentices, the three of them taught the newer apprentices, Beetlepaw, Honeypaw, and Twisterpaw, the ropes of the territory and built the foundation of a clanship between the six of them. Unrulypaw especially took to Beetlepaw, a soft-spoken cat with big eyes.

Unrulypaw saw Beetlepaw as a younger brother of sorts and helped him train to fight, building up the young tom's courage to defend their clan and also unwittingly building up a reputation as a natural leader. Truthfully, Unrulypaw simply had a soft spot for cats who were sensitive and not as strong as himself.

Unrulypaw was given his warrior ceremony alone, since he was the most-senior apprentice in the clan and his friends, Dunepaw and Aspenpaw, still had many moons ahead of them.

During his warrior ceremony, Toadstar noted Unrulypaw's powerful ability to lead and his strength, both physically and emotionally. He likened it to rain in the hot days of greenleaf, powerfully battering the trees but bringing relief to the thirsty plants and animals of the forest. Because of this, Unrulypaw was named Unrulystorm.

After many moons, Unrulystorm settled into the normalcy of clan life. Staticpeak, a wild-furred ginger cat who could predict the weather of the territory, was accepted into his heart as a father. Staticpeak and his mother, Desertflower, welcomed two kits into the clan named Blisterkit and Thistlekit.

It went without saying that Unrulystorm was pleased for his mother, father, and new siblings. He spent any free time he could babysitting his siblings to give time to his mother and father, as well as took it upon himself to hunt without being told to just to make sure the clan— and thus his family— stayed well fed.

One terrible evening, Unrulystorm came across the deep, unmistakable prints of a fox on the territory. Judging by the placement of the paws, he realized that the fox was heading towards BirchClan camp. He breezed through the forest, just able to come across the monsterous fight of a fox against his Clan.

The fox had brutally taken the life of more then several warriors and was fast-approaching the nursery den, where his father blocked the entrance. For fear of losing the family he loved, Unrulystorm ran head first to attack the fox alone.

Even though Unrulystorm was physically outmatched, he relied on his wit and speed to battle the foam-mouthed fox. Luckily, the fox seemed to shudder out of its violent state and twisted onto its back, where it heaved a terrible, ghostly noise of agony and died.

Shimmerpool rushed to handle Unrulystorm's deep wounds, then shrieked at the clan to stay away from the fox when they started to approach. She warned the clan that the fox was sick and that the sickness specifically drove a cat to madness. She noted in horror that the sickness, from her knowledge, was passed through spit.

Unrulystorm knew what this meant for him. Despite this, he declared that he will dispose of the fox carcass because he was already infected. He followed Shimmerpool's advice and shoved the fox into Lion Mouth; a deep, dark cave that no cat of BirchClan entered. When he returned, he expected to be exhiled to die alone as to not affect the clan, but Shimmerpool said that she had consulted Tree Tops and that she was given advice by their healer ancestors.

Taken into the medicine den, Shimmerpool warned Unrulystorm that the cure to the sickness would not be painless. He reminded her that if he wanted to avoid pain, he would not have attacked the fox. She found his comment humorous and said that she hoped he meant that.

After many agonizing hours, Unrulystorm was officially cured of the illness. Shimmerpool had paintakenly removed huge chunks of muscle and fur from his body, leaving the superficial scratches to heal with cobwebs and herbs. His tail was amputated and one of his hind legs had a noticable dip in the muscle, a necessary removal to ensure his survival of the illness.

After Unrulystorm officially healed from both his injuries and a fever brought on by the wounds, he returned to his warrior duties with his head high. His clanmates had visited him multiple times while he healed, sharing gossip and monitering his mental and physical health during this period, and Unrulystorm knew that the clan did not judge him for his new physical appearance.

It became apparent to Unrulystorm that his hind leg brought on many difficulties in his day-to-day life. Some days, he was able to manage his pain. Other days, he needed to visit Shimmerpool for the necessary herbs and rest. It was not a life he was used to and while he was never treated with disdain, he worried that his new disability was becoming troublesome to the clan itself.

One day, Toadstar took Unrulystorm aside to speak quietly in the depths of the territory. The two cats spoke about the situation, which is where Unrulystorm admitted his concerns and wondered if he needed to retire. Toadstar had stared at him, flicked his ear, and asked why they would retire a perfectly good cat. He reminded Unrulystorm that a clan relies on each other, not one cat. Where Unrulystorm was weak, the clan was strong. And where the clan was weak, Unrulystorm was strong.

Toadstar wisely added that even with Unrulystorm's new life, he was not holding the clan back. He was a role model for the kits, apprentices, and warriors of the clan. Toadstar then admitted that he snuck Unrulystorm out of camp specifically to ask if he wanted to take on an apprentice.

Unrulystorm, struck by emotions he could not express, gratefully accepted the opportunity. At the end of the moon, he was given the apprentice Tumblepaw and still trains him to current day.
