Meet Potato Patches!
An orphan living on the city streets, Potato doesn't have very much to his name - just the potato sack wrapped tightly around his waist and a few trinkets. He doesn't remember where he came from or who his original family was, all he knows is Potatoes. They're on the sack he's been wearing for as long as he can recall, and consists of almost his entire diet for just as long. As such, he completely swears by the nutritious, delicious vegetable, which have become his life's obsession, biggest passion, and namesake. After all, it's thanks to them that he's grown to be surprisingly healthy for a desperately poor child who's lived entirely in the streets. It's currently unknown if his strict potato diet is due to personal choice or out of necessity due to his situation, but either way he appears perfectly content with this arrangement.
Despite his "rough" situation, Potato remains surprisingly cheerful and optimistic. He likes to live life in the present - as long as he has his potatoes, what more could a little street urchin like him need? He spends his free time preaching about the virtues of potatoes to all who would listen, offering extras to passing strangers and delighting in analyzing potato shapes, sizes, and quality.
While the vast majority of his life has been scraping the bottom of the barrel in a violent battle for survival within the city slums, with odd jobs and hunting for coins on the streets barely enough to avoid starvation, his sheer obsession with potatoes has finally recently begun to bear fruit - or in Potato's case, bear potatoes.
Potato's potato passion has, over the years, made him an expert on the common vegetable ... a trait that has not gone unnoticed by the city's public. While first regarded as a silly nuisance or insane, nonsensical ramblings typical of those of the lowest classes, his uncannily thoughtful analysis of the commonly sold vegetable combined with his habit of loudly, publicly reviewing the potatoes of every street vendor had, unbeknown to him, began having a genuine effect in the public sphere. Little by little, people began asking him for advice on detecting potato rot, who sold the highest-quality potatoes, and which cheap, dishonest vendors should be avoided.
As buying habits began to shift based on Potato's reviews, vendors and merchants too began to take notice. With their sales noticeably rising with a high-rated Potato recommendation, merchants began competing for the young street ruffian's attention - such as offering up their merchandise for his examination and 'sponsoring' him with free potatoes.
As such, while Potato is still abysmally poor, he no longer has to worry about going hungry - now he has all the free potatoes he could want! He's even saved enough to buy a few pots and pans and began experimenting with cooking potatoes, and sleep in a cheap inn or with a particularly friendly merchant whenever father winter's wrath makes the streets he calls home unbearably chilly. He's even begun thinking of one day becoming a potato farmer or opening a potato-themed restaurant sometime in the future.
After all, with an endless supply of potatoes - what more could a Potato Patch need?
