One word describes Deimos most easily throughout all of his younger years-- afraid. He is afraid of people, afraid of change, afraid of nearly anything and everything. He was born without pupils, and his vision is severely inhibited because of that, which contributes to his constant fear. Though he can utilize a form of sonar that enables him to "see" in other ways.
He lost his mother early on, and he was on his own. He's never fit in, thanks to his extensive mutations, and in his early years he never seemed to find someone who could love and respect him anyway for it.
Deimos, also known as Mo, didn't have any friends until he met Riptide and Gustav, who tried to take him under their wings so to speak. Gustav spent quite a bit of time trying to teach the little guy how to "land him a woman." Most of which Mo ignored.
He might have stayed like this, alone mostly without two much older friends to keep him company until he met Auria. She seemed to have a strange obsession, and would force her presence on him (often leading him to run off/hide away) and tried to win his affections with food (containing love potions mostly, though he never ate any of the food left for him just out of sheer distrust in general) Eventually, though, when Auria stopped coming around, Deimos found she had wormed her way into his heart, and had grown anxious not having her around. Eventually he goes to find the young witch and the two of them grow closer together.
Deimos is still afraid of a lot through his late teens/early twenties when he first meets Auria, but oddly enough not afraid of magic any longer. With how he feels for Auria, it's not surprise that he's made himself comfortable with her craft as well. And every day they spend together, he finds himself growing just a little bolder-- and a little more in love. Into his mid-twenties-- with four kids now and a loving wife-- he's not really much afraid anymore.
