BACKGROUND:
Born as the eldest of two princesses of the Kingdom of Gold (Jin), Asuka lived a very happy and quite spoiled childhood under the protective watch of her father, the King. It was discovered that she possessed the ability to manipulate fibers, and loved to make origami animals walk around to entertain herself and the servants. Unbeknownst to her at the time, the king's half-brother (Asuka's uncle) had set his eyes on the throne and was plotting to overthrow the King. One evening, there was a fire at the castle. Asuka convinced her maid to help find her family before evacuating. They entered a secret corridor (Asuka found it while playing and was familiar with the tunnels, which the fire and smoke had not entered) and made their way to the King's chambers. However, she heard her father scream as her maid started to open the door. She peaked inside and found that her father had been slain by his half-brother and his men, and her mother and sister were severely beaten and appeared to be unconscious. Asuka wanted to help them but was powerless admist the flames. She knew that as a witness to her father's murder, there was no way they would have let her live. She fled the scene, heartbroken.

She stayed in her maid's home that evening to hide from danger. After the citizens mourned the death of the old King, Asuka returned to the castle during the inauguration ceremony for the new King, much to his surprise. As it would have been too suspicious if immediately after the royal family supposedly perished in a fire, the only surviving princess were to disappear without a trade. The King decided to let her live, because they did not perceive her as a threat to his rule.

Asuka was traumatized by what she'd seen, but could not show it in front of the King. But she vowed to regain her father's Kingdom.
