5'6", skinny in the bad sort of way. he has pale and desaturated skin that makes him look almost like a corpse, with various scars from scrapping and dark circles under his eyes from his poor sleep schedule. his eyes are dark gray, and his hair is short and black. wears clothes 3 sizes too big for him, a doctor's coat, and wire-framed glasses.

aleksei tends to be grumpy and snappish, mostly due to the fact that he stays up late and wakes up early and is always, always stressed. he prefers to keep relationships on a surface level, though he will sympathize with his patients as long as they refrain from being bastards. he takes absolutely no shit from the gangsters that he has to deal with on the daily. he has a penchant for sarcasm and biting comments that usually drives others away from him. aleksei seems to not realize that people care about him, and has deluded himself into thinking he only has a professional relationship with his staff even though he has nurses and fellow doctors that respect and love him. even though he built his (illegal) practice from the ground up, by himself, he remains humble and acts like it’s no biggie. he has a passion for helping the less fortunate, because he once was one of them.

aleksei's parents were immigrants, moving to japan when he was very little. he grew up fascinated by medicine, but his family was horribly poor and there was no chance of him ever earning enough money in his lifetime to go to college and medical school. one of his high school friends found out about aleksei's passion for the medical field and offered him a job: to find out what was wrong with a "friend". the friend turned out to be a high profile member of a local gang, which honestly scared aleksei shitless. however, he did find out it was nothing more than a bad case of measles and the gang was able to score the medicine necessary for the man's recovery. aleksei earned the trust of this gang from then on, and continued to treat their ailments through high school and into adulthood. once graduated, aleksei was encouraged to pursue medicine even though there was absolutely no way he could ever afford it. instead, he asked if the gang would ever consider compensating him for his, ahem, private medical work. they agreed. throughout the years, aleksei was referred to bigger and more wealthy gangs for their problems that they obviously couldn't go to an actual doctor or hospital over. he can more than afford to get an official doctorate and license nowadays, but instead he chose to open a "hospital" of sorts in the slums of the place where he grew up, treating shady hitmen and impoverished single mothers alike.
