NOTE : I'm aware that there's an existing vocabulary guide thread, but it can become overwhelming due to the inclusion of less commonly used words. When I was a beginner, I found it challenging to navigate. Therefore, I've created a simplified version focusing on the most used terms within the Adoptables Community. I hope that it will be more accessible and helpful to others.

✦ What's an Adopt/Adoptable?
It's a character design that you can own. You can either create a character by yourself or either buy them from others artists!

✦ What's Toyhouse/TH?
It's the most popular website for storing character designs, where users can also code HTML profiles and add descriptions. Additionally, it features a significant marketplace for buying and selling character designs.

🌊🩡 ADOPT AUCTIONS SLANG

✦ What's an adopt auction?
Artists often organize auctions for their adopts. People bid for the adopt and the winner of the auction will own the adopt.

✦ SB : It stands for Starting Bid. The bid must be equal or higher to the SB.
✦ MI : Minimum Increase. It's the minimum amount to add from the previous bid.
✦ AB : Auto Buy. It's a set price to "skip" the auction part and automatically buy the adopt. By AB'ing, the person can own the adopt without waiting the end of the auction.
-
✦ Hold : A temporary pause in offering a design for sale or trade, during which the other party secures the required payment for the desired design. The current owner waits for an agreed-upon time for the transaction to be completed.
✦ PP/Payment Plans : These refer to arrangements where a buyer divides the total cost of a purchase into multiple installments, allowing for more manageable payments over time, instead of paying the entire amount upfront.
✦ Vouchers : This entails an individual committing to purchase an item of equal or similar value to a character they receive from the seller.

πŸ‡πŸ’œ ADOPT SALES & TRADES SLANG

✦ Trade : When a owner put their adopt for trades, it means that they want to exchange their adopt for an other adopt.
✦ Set Price : Contrary to adopts auctions, an adopt who has a Set Price only have one price set. There's no auctions, there's just a fixed price to buy them.
✦ Swap : It means that an adopt owner is interested in exchanging characters within the same species or swapping one-off designs created by the same artist.
-
✦ UFO : Up For Offers. If an adopt is UFO, it means that they're open for offers. They can be open to art offers, adopts offers, money offers, etc.
✦ EO : Entertaining Offers. It can have the same meaning as UFO or it either means that the character might not be easily accepted for offers.
✦ OTA : Offer To Adopt. Same meaning as UFO.
✦ UFS : Up For Sale. If an adopt is UFS, it means that the owner is only looking for money offers. The adopt can have a Set Price for this.
✦ NFS : Not For Sale.
✦ NFT : Not For Trade.
✦ OBO : Or Best Offer. It allows you to bid lower and potentially win. However, some misuse it as Or Better Offer, expecting higher bids to secure a win.
✦ FCFS : First Come First Served. Meaning that's the first person to claim that can get the adopt.
✦ Purge : It signifies that an adopt owner is interested in disposing of multiple designs simultaneously, aiming to clear out a collection or selection of designs.
-
✦ Raffle : An adopt that is for Raffle is an adopt obtainable by participating in a giveaway. A Raffle is often free and have often little rules to follow to enter. The winner of the Raffle owns the adopt.
✦ Freebie : It's a free adopt.
-
✦ Tent/Tentative : It's when an owner put their adopt for sale, for trade or for offers, but they're not sure about separating from them. People often do this to make window shopping.
✦ LF : Looking For.
-
✦ OC :Β Original Character. It’s basically a character design with their lore and story made by the owner.
✦ TBN : To Be Named. It's often used for designs and characters that haven't been given a name yet.
✦ TBA : To Be Added. It's commonly used when a person intends to include additional information about their character later. It can also be used in auctions, when the artist want to add the AB later, for example.

✦ MYO : Make Your Own. It's a ticket that can be won or purchased, granting authorization to create a design within a Closed Species.
✦ Open Species : This implies that anyone is free to create their own character of the species without restrictions.

πŸ΅πŸ’› SPECIES SLANG

✦ Humanoid : Characters that have a human-like form. They're not necessarily human, they can have extras forms that aren't human on them (ex: horns, tail, animal ears, etc).
✦ Anthro/Anthropomorphic : Characters that mostly have animal forms but have some human anatomy, like standing on their feet, having a human-like hand, etc. A great example for anthro characters is the Walt Disney Movie : Zootopia.
✦ Feral : Characters that have a total animal form, like real animals. They have no Humanoid traits.
✦ Furry : In the context of the online community, Furry refers to individuals who have an interest in anthropomorphic animals, which are animals with human-like qualities or characteristics. Furry enthusiasts may create or appreciate artwork, stories, and personas featuring these anthropomorphic animals.
