Melyn Tymedes

Melyn is serious, dutiful, and won't accept anything less than perfection. He works incredibly hard, rarely making room in his schedule for socialising or relaxing. As Aias's right-hand, and one of the strongest magic-users in the Order, he has a big reputation to uphold, and even bigger responsibilties.

Not one to show many emotions or let down his guard, it's very hard to get close to him. As such, he has very few friends, preferring to keep strictly work-oriented relationships.

Melyn was born into the great and long-standing House Tymedes, one of the original noble houses that joined under Aias to create the Kingdom of Norria. With a reputation to uphold, his father was incredibly strict, and seemed to hold no emotion for his son. His mother was quiet, but loved her son dearly. Unfortunately, she passed away after giving birth to Melyn's sister, Osanna. Their father's temper and neglectfulness only got worse since that night, but Melyn was always there to look after his sister.

He discovered his warding magic one night when he was fourteen, after accidentally creating a shield around Osanna during one of their father's outbursts. The family was soon visited by Aias's inquisitors - who are trained in sensing magic-users - to offer Melyn an apprenticeship in the Order of Tor, an elite guard of magic-users who are tasked with the protection of the Kingdom of Norria. His father, ever-loyal to Aias, agreed and sent his son away with them to train, despite Melyn pleading to stay with his sister.

In the Order of Tor, he soon discovered his capability for Pyromancy, and his power grew exponentially as he became an adult. He rose through the ranks until he became the Lord Commander, and Aias's right-hand and counsel. He received his Crystalbound weapon from Aias - a longsword with three fragments.

Melyn rarely visited his father's estate - while his father took pride in his son's position in the Order, his mood was always dampened by Melyn's non-compliance in marrying and producing an heir. His sister was like-minded, especially since she joined the Order herself after discovering her own affinity for magic.

Although preferring to work alone, due to his warding magic Melyn often found himself paired up with another magic-user. He never truly bonded with any of them, until working with the demon Tal Radegast. They were complete opposites of each-other, and although Melyn found the demon irritating at first, he appreciated his skills with magic. They eventually became close friends, and worked together often. He also enjoyed working alongside Osanna, naturally, although after being apart for several years, she had become very independant, and often didn't want her older brother's protection.

When Orrin Maplewood, a boy with great and rare power is brought to the Order, he is entrusted into Melyn and Tal's care for protection, and to be Melyn's apprentice. Despite never being particularly paternal, Orrin's positive outlook and complete, innocent sense of wonder for the world (and the reality of Orrin's situation, which only Melyn and Aias are aware of) softens Melyn, who eventually begins to see him as a son-figure, and someone he wants to protect.

A few years later, the intense usage of his powers began to catch up to him. Magic-users tend to have shorter lifespans if they don't regulate their power usage, especially within the Order where they are often working. Melyn found himself tiring quicker, and becoming more and more unsteady after each mission. Too proud to admit it, and not wanting to lessen his workload or lose his important position within the Order, or to be away from his apprentice, he would hide this reality as best he could and continue to push himself. However, due to how closely they worked together, Tal soon picked up on the way his hands shook, how weary he had grown, how defensive he would become if questioned. On a particularly bad night, Tal confronted him about his health, which resulted in a heated argument, but ultimately Melyn opened up to the demon about his state of mind. The vulnerability he showed to only him, the way he would push himself to his limits to protect Orrin, made Tal realise his feelings for Melyn.

After entrusting some of his duties to Tal, and limiting his magic usage, Melyn's condition doesn't seem to get any worse. Spending more and more time with each-other, Melyn and Tal formed a relationship, getting married several years later.
