I think you're being very stupid right now. Just make sure to come to the herbalist's den right after, alright?

Poppypaw is an interesting choice for an herbalist. There's no doubt that her heart both usually and currently is in the right place; she wants to help as many cats as she can and do the most good she can in the world and shows that through her dedication to her work. She takes her role very seriously both as a healer and her clan's connection to the dead, highly spiritual--though she seems to be more intune with nature and the dead than many of the cats around her, often described as distant and aloof. She's fairly strange as far as cats go, her odd balance between kind and blunt and utterly strange meaning she comes across as quite unnerving. What is concrete about her, though, is that she will always be everywhere on time and can be trusted to be present when she is needed; it's just a shame that this same trive makes her quite unflexible when it comes to her itinerary... and she seems to expect the same of those around her more times than not.- Good intentioned . Dutiful . Prompt
- Spiritual . Blunt . Strange
- Unnerving . Disconnected . Inflexible

Story
Kithood [Moon 72 - Moon 78]
Poppykit was born into CloverClan as a single kitten to a single mother during Moon 72, just after Fleascratch's arrival (she saw nothing wrong with it; he'd always been there, hadn't he?); her mother, Littlestep, adored her new kitten, having lost her mate Cloudflight just before she even found out she was pregnant and sickly. She wasn't around long, dying from a respiratory infection when Poppykit was 2 months old, but the hazy memories that Poppykit did have were all overwhelmingly warm, like sunlight on her fur. She remembers the nest turning cold and asking where Littlestep went, only to be herded into the nest of another queen (Mudskip and her three kittens, Frogkit, Pebblekit, and Stormykit, who were little enough to not even notice the entrance of their new, moon-older sister. Life wasn't quite the same after that.
Poppykit was always an odd kit, seemingly talking to herself and interested in nature moreso than most her age, but even more so after her mother's death. She seemed haunted almost, never quite getting a straight answer as to where her mother went and spending a good amount of time just sitting and... waiting for her, staring at the camp entrance. Mudskip tried to coax her out of it, but with her own three beginning to walk and talk, she really just served as a 'home base' of sorts to share a nest with at night.
Eventually, Mudskip felt she was old enough to be told what happened (or maybe she finally pitied the young kitten enough to let the cat out of the bag): Littlestep had gone to walk with their ancestors. Poppykit asked what that meant ('A walk? Then why hasn't she come back?'), and eventually Mudskip cracked and told her exatly what it meant and Littlestep was dead. It was after this conversation that Poppykit grew interested in the afterlife (and after convincing Mudskip to tell her how Littlestep died, medicine; there had to be a treatment out there, right?)
It's while Poppykit is processing this information during her 4th moon and what it meant that both Starlingdstar and Snakemask are killed by a wolverine while going to a gathering; it's with their deaths that Poppykit understands the gravity of death. She decides she doesn't like wolverines or sickness much. Fernmask is appointed the new leader after some days of deliberation among the herbalists and Snow-Blessed; Poppykit didn't have strong feelings on the choice. To her, as long as the new leader was trying to do the best for CloverClan, she was pleased.
Apprenticeship [Moon 78 - Present]
Poppykit becomes Poppypaw during moon 78, made a warrior apprentice to the eager warrior Redriver. The warrior was apprehensive with Poppypaw's demeanor being notably offputting (why did he have to train the weird one?), but settled once the apprentice seemed to demonstrate they were honestly a good cat trying to do the best they can for the cats around her.
They seemed to but heads some, however, when Poppypaw showed little interest in the training; she didn't dislike it, but instead seemed to want to focus on other things, asking Redriver about StarClan and the kinds of medicine in the forest. Redriver tried to redirect her into warrior training, but it just never stuck; Poppypaw had always been a dedicated cat.
It's after some heavy deliberation between Redriver, Fernstar, and the Snow-Blessed that it was decided that Poppypaw would be an herbalist apprentice instead, clearly not having the right mindset to be an effective warrior but having one that could make for a promising healer, even if she wasn't the most comforting cat to be around; you can't win them all. So, during her 7th moon, Poppypaw was asked if she wanted to try training as an herbalist apprentice instead, and she accepted. She is effectively re-apprenticed around the same time her adoptive littermates gain their apprentice names.

Related
Poppypaw never knew Cloudflight, the tom having died before she was born, and as such views him neutrally; Littlestep, however, was a cat she remembers as being warm and comfortable, her hazy memories of her nothing but positive. She passed 2 months into Poppypaw's life, and she spent a lot of time waiting for her to come home before being told what actually happened. She misses her mother.
Poppypaw isn't particularly close with her adoptive family; Mudskip spent much of her early life with her having to wrangle three growing kits and Poppypaw spent much of her time waiting for Littlestep to come home, meaning she never really developed a meaningful bond with Mudskip or her litter. She appreciates them and knows they do accept her as part of the family--she just simply can't get herself to view Mudskip as a replacement for Littlestep, a fact the other molly respects. In turn, Poppypaw respects her effort and presence, knowing she can go to her if she really needs something.
Redriver was Poppypaw's mentor for the brief time she was a warrior apprentice, seemingly excited to get an apprentice but not excited that it was Poppypaw of all cats. Poppypaw chose not to take it personally (she knew she didn't have the most comforting persona) and likes to think Redriver respects her shift to the herbalist's den... though, she can't help but notice the slightly frustrated looks her way on occasion, possibly in part because he didn't even get one of her adopted siblings as a replacement. She is trying to ignore it.
