Protag of the story

Parents died in a huge war while he was still an egg

This bullies would would intentionally harass him and mock him, and he was just tired of it so he eventually just snapped and lashed out at them. He was always bitter because he had no family and felt alone and scared, so he chose fight over flight. but he sometimes took it too far and got payback for it. This gave him an intense fear of fighting, and as such is seen as a weakling or a wimp. 

As he matured, he only grew more bitter towards his peers. He began to sneer at them and taunt them, making rude remarks and critisizing them behind their backs. (Which made him even LESS popular than he had been as a pup. He retained his fear of fighting, however.

In a tournament that would decide amongst the strongest and healthiest creatures to choose to get the power, Amali, during the climbing portion, was forced to shove another contender to their demise. It was the only other option except his own death, and as such he doesn't let it bother him too much.

What does bother him is that, during the fighting portion, he permantly impared the vision of the only person to trust him, Kilio, and for whatever reason, Kilio forgave him and doesnt hold any grudges. THIS haunts him, since the first person to ever show him compassion and understand still trusted him ever when he almost crippled him for life.

After surviving the tournament, Amali woke up one day to find a small pup nestled at his side. It was discovered to be the pup of a hostile rogue, but when he tried to return it, they were ambushed by another rogue who had killed the pup's parents. Amali ran back to the camp with the pup in his jaws, and so now the pup, who he named Exlex, worships him like an idol. 

Sadly for Exlex though, Amali is openly hostile to him and doesn't enjoy his companionship, ignoring the young pup and disregarding his safety.
