Gorou was once an arrogant but overall kind and fun-loving teenager. She once laughed and loved and worked and played. Her upbringing might have been odd being a mercernary, but she loved her family, made some friends, and they loved her too.
Being a mercernary is hard sometimes.
It all went to shit when he met an infamous land developer named Yukine Chino. She hired him as a bodyguard at first, forcing him to leave his friends and family behind on the east coast and move cross country.
The contract had only been a year, but over that year Yukine had started to sink her claws into him. She convinced him over and over that he just needed to stay a little bit longer and exhausted him with work so he didnt have any time to think.
Yukine then convinced Gorou to marry her to have an heir to her company and things got worse. The heir was born, and trouble was stirred immediately. Yukine seemed to hate the needy baby and had Gorou be the sole carer of the child, but as soon as the baby started to walk he got lost and when he started to speak intentionally he wasnt using his own words but copying others'. Gorou found nothing wrong with this, her child was almost just like her when she was younger but still different in his own right. Gorou had always wanted a family. She had hoped it would be with some other people, but that wouldnt stop her from loving this kid. Yukine’s resentment for the child only grew.
It all came to a head when the boy went missing for over a year. Yukine convinced Gorou to have another child with her to replace the boy and to lock him in a house so he couldnt damage her pristine reputation. Gorou's heart broke a little, and with it, his mind.
Eventually, he found the boy, but just as soon as he was introduced to his new little brother they left him behind.
The next two decades went by in a blur. She had completely given up resisting Yukine’s will. She had forgotten even her name. She loved the new child as much as she could of course, but Yukine calling her to leave would always snatch her away from her second chance at parenthood.
It wasnt until the child she had him lock away came back and took their second child with him that Gorou's eyes opened a little. And it wasnt until Yukine tried to convince him to try again for another heir that the illusion shattered.
Gorou isnt the same anymore. Shes meek. Self concious. She takes commands without question and she doesnt understand jokes anymore. But her friends still love her. Her family mostly still loves her. Everything is okay.
