Cute Charm

Dimwinter has what one might call ‘infectious energy.’ You know how, when you get rowdy with a group of friends, everything seems like a way better, more fun idea, even if in reality it’s still a very bad idea? Dimwinter can supply that high all on his own. This infectious charm gives him the impression of being capable, charming, and lending to the feeling that everything will work out in the end. It’s part of what made him successful as a general. But often times this results in him selling really great ideas or promises which, as soon as you’re away from him, you realize are actually awful ideas that you don’t really want to go through with. Why did you agree to extending your karaoke session three times, knowing you had to get up in the morning? In fact, why did you even care so much what that guy thought of you in the first place? In retrospect, he’s really just kind of an eclectic weirdo, but at the time he seemed so cool, somehow??

Fortunately, the simple awareness of this effect can free one from it. Once a person is made aware of the cute charm effect, it’s kind of like seeing through a party trick - you can’t unsee it. While a person might slip under its effects again if they forget about it, simply remembering that Dimwinter has the ability usually snaps them immediately from his influence, like a sobering slap.

♪ Personality ♪

Dimwinter spent the first half of his life being so bottled up that he could barely stand it. As such, he now has an incredibly open, unabashed, and loud personality. He refuses to compromise an inch when it comes to self-expression, and he will fearsomely defend it for himself or any rando he happens to meet. He comes across as overly-friendly and personable, and while over the top, it is also completely sincere. He also has a strong sense of honor and fairness, and can’t stand to see anyone bullied. Unfortunately this often results in him being outright nosey, often trying to get involved in places he really has no business. While, in part, he perceives this as a form of being helpful, it is also likely born from a desire to be close and involved with other people. The more he likes someone, the more likely he is to want to pry into every detail of their lives and insert himself. As a result he can be a very overbearing personality, and does best with people who can set firm boundaries with them. Once clear boundaries are established, he does a much better job of respecting them.

[TLDR: angy war general slips through a dimensional door into a 1950’s friend sitcom type dimension, cuts loose and loves it, goes home, hates it, tries to go back only to realize everyone has forgotten him, decides to split the difference and open up a karaoke bar in hyperion]

[cw: War]

Dimwinters home province, The Crimson Kingdom, was one with a very rigid social caste system, which neither he nor anyone else were allowed to stray from. Species, type, ability, gender, sexuality, anything and everything was used as an excuse to rank, file, and organize citizens into categories of usefulness and worth. The path of his life was decided from birth - he was born the son of a respected war general. So, from his birth, he was trained to be a warrior. Not just a warrior, but a leader. In The Crimson Kingdom, this meant not only a leader of battles, but of their people - everything translated into military strength in the end, after all. He was privileged because of his familys status - the finest tutors, instructors, the finest warriors the province could provide to sculpt him into a formidable foe. Dimwinter was a diligent and obedient son, who did as he was bade. He hated every minute of it.

The generals son had never paid too much mind to his strange birthmark. He’d stopped mentioning it completely when people looked at him funny, as if they couldn’t see it. He had no idea what role it would play in his fate when he stumbled through a doorway into another world, one very unlike his own. At first he was frightened, then he was desperate, then angry. Lost in a strange world and unable to attend his duties back home, Dimwinter had no choice but to rely on the help of the inhabitants of his new, strange world, full of things like “cars'' and “jukeboxes” and “diners”, all of which he slowly grew to love. He became incredibly fond of his new world, and of his friends there. When The Voyagers finally appeared one day to set things back to right, he wanted to stay… but he felt compelled to return to his home world, to set right the duties which he had been severed from.

Upon his return, Dimwinter was much more aware of how restrictive his home was, and more importantly, how unhappy he had always been there. It wasn’t only the place, but his role within it. He had no desire for conquest, or to lead people, or to be the man his father was. Hoping to return to the world which he had come to love, he sought out The Voyagers who had helped him before once more, and made his way to Hyperion, fleeing his homeworld forever and never looking back.

Despite pleading his case, getting back to the world he missed proved difficult. Apparently a lot of resources went into moving people between dimensions, and it wasn’t something the Voyagers did all willy nilly. For ultimately selfish reasons, Dimwinter agreed to become a World Explorer with the Guild, going through training and learning what went into the job. As soon as an opportunity arose, he finally returned to the world he sought… only to realize that Unown had wiped the memory of him from his friends minds long ago. They had been living happy lives, oblivious that he had ever existed.

Dimwinter promptly retired from his brief stint as an official world hopper, struggling through a low point in his life before picking up the pieces. He embraced his new home in Hyperion, and set up a memorium to his favorite passtime that his otherworld friends had introduced him to - Karaoke. He set up the West End Karaoke Bar & Lounge in the Bottom of Hyperion, and has been operating it happily for several years now. Despite having only been an official member of the guild for a brief period, he still talks to Guild Members as if he’s a member of the old guard or something.

Divided - Earth 90801

[ASK]

Divided is exactly what it sounds like - a rigid, unforgiving world, whose civilizations have, at best, come to an icy form of compliant peace after many generations of warfare. While violence is no longer as widespread as it once was, the remaining kingdoms are forged in military might, obedience, and strict adherence to that cultures social hierarchy. Each of the clashing provinces are distinct, with cultures which might vary in many ways, but which tend to share the same themes - obedience, and sacrifice by the people in the name of diligence, or duty, or honor. Their cultures are each oppressive and, to varying degrees, aggressive, celebrating strength and triumph.

Successive generations of destruction in the past have set back technological and social advancements in Divided, leaving their knowledge and technology leagues behind other worlds. Battles are still fought with blades, trebuchets, and arrows. There is no “magic” so to speak, but pokemon do retain a rather limited moveset, which is most often trained into a single practical application. Understanding of physics and the world(s) at large are scarce at best, and most aren’t well educated. Most Political systems are feudal-esque, with Lords or high ranking military families controlling most aspects of government and rule.
