Moonchildren Species Info

Physical Description: Moonchildren are shapeshifters, they have their natural form which is essentially a beast like animal and they have a “disguised” form which is their human form. Their natural form is significantly bigger than that of an average animal. The average height of a fox is about 2 ft, the average height of a vulpine moonchild is 6 ft. Moonchildren always have platelike scales, normally on their legs and along their back, scales can also be on their face, serving as some kind of natural protection. These scales are very sturdy being almost impossible to crack. Monchildren also have horns, they can have anywhere from 1- 4 horns total and the horn style varies for each individual moonchild. They also have retractable claws that are extremely sharp. Oftentimes they have protruding fangs but it depends on the subspecies,  the only ones that wouldn’t have them are the Birds and the Dolphins/Fish. On occasion moonchildren can also have plated underbellies but that trait varies for each individual. Regardless of their subspecies, things that remain consistent among the moonchildren is that they have plate-like scales on their bodies, they have horns and they have retractable claws. Moonchildren in their natural form can consist of unnatural and natural colors or a combination of both, though their unnatural colors tend to not be very bright as it would cause them to stand out more than they already do. In their human form they are able to talk normally, allowing them to communicate with the other species, however in their natural forms their verbal communication is more like telepathy with other species.

Species Overview:

Moonchildren tend to be very peaceful creatures, they would much rather keep to themselves and avoid conflict if possible. They tend to stay hidden in order to help avoid trouble. They aren’t normally ones to start fights, but if challenged or put in a position where they need to protect themselves or someone they care about, they will do everything in their power in order to do so. Not only are they very fast and have great physical strength, all moonchildren have elemental powers. 7 categories, these categories consist of Water, Earth, Fire, Electricity, Air, Light, and Darkness. But that doesn’t mean all powers within those categories are the same, not all powers are identical and can vary from creature to creature. For instance a moonchild with earth powers may have powers relating to plants while another who has powers in the earth category could have powers relating to the ground and earth directly, it all depends on bloodline and ancestry that determines power. These powers get stronger with age and experience, using a lot of magic at once causes a moonchild to grow extremely tired, to help themselves recharge, they find a place to rest where they can bathe in moonlight, one of the reasons they are known as moonchildren. These creatures are very loyal, once they’ve accepted you as one of their own, they will be willing to die for you. As proof of their undying loyalty moonchildren mate for life, once they have decided that they have found that one person they love, they will do anything for that individual and wouldn’t be able to love anyone else as much as their mate that has their heart. Moonchildren tend to live in different colonies based on their subspecies which include:

Canine

Feline

Bears

Avians

Reptiles

Dolphins/Fish

Each subspecies has a leader of that particular subspecies. The ruler of the moonchild species in general is known as the Alpha. The leader is in charge with keeping order within their subspecies and making sure their colony is functioning.

Elemental powers:

Each moonchild is only able to wield one elemental power, they can’t ever have a combination of 2 it’s impossible, even as a hybrid they will still only have one moonchild elemental power, but they will also have the power of the other magical creature they are a part of. As stated earlier, the different categories doesn’t mean that each power is limited to the exact same power for every moonchild. Moonchildren start off having the capability of using 2 variations of each elemental power, and can learn to master more with practice, typically the leaders and alpha will have the most variation of powers in their elements due to being trained more vigorously. Also the stronger and more powerful the attack, the more energy it will drain from the moonchild.

Water: The water element is one that can vary greatly, moonchildren of the water element could be able to summon rain/rainstorms, they could have the ability to purify water by touching it (the bigger the body of water, the longer it will take), If water moonchildren are injured, they can summon water to use from bodies of water and use it as a weapon or use it to help them or others, they could surround themselves in a veil of water to allow them to walk across bodies of water. They could also have ice powers, this could include being able to freeze water, having the power to freeze things, creating ice walls and other things, shooting ice spikes, covering parts of their body with ice to serve as protection, creating small blizzards/flurries to hide themselves. (Ice falls into the water category but not all water element moonchildren have ice powers, it is a subelement of water)

Earth: The earth element also has many variations that range from rock, ground, and plants. Earth moonchildren can summon sandstorms, they can use their magic to create rocks/boulders, can cause earthquakes, they could tear open the ground, they can share nutrients with plants (they can give and take), they can help plants grow and use them at their disposal, they can also spread pollen. They can make plants bloom and close to either maximize their effects or to avoid them. For instance if a flower is poisonous they can close the flower so others don’t get poisoned

Fire: Moonchildren of the fire element are able to make things warm, whether it’s other moochildren/living beings, it could be objects, it could also be food. They are also capable of turning rocks into burning embers. They can fluctuate the temperature of their fire powers. They can breathe fire and they can have fire come from any part of their body, they can shoot flames or little wisps, they can also start controlled fires and control the directional of which it spreads and they can also cause volcanoes to become active

Electricity: Moonchildren of the electricity element can make their body staticy (like if you rub your socks on the carpet and poke someone), they can start creating little sparks, they can absorb electricity from other moonchildren with the electricity element. They can shoot lightning from their body, they can do a sporadic attack of lightning (like a discharge move), they can summon thunderstorms, lightning can heal them and help them regain energy.

Air: Moonchildren of the air element are typically avians, but can be other subspecies as well, it’s just more common in the avian subspecies. They have the power to sense when and where strong winds will be coming from (the distance in which they can sense these winds grows with experience), they can create gusts of winds, they can create strong winds, they could form tornadoes, they can also alter the air density (the space is limited)

Light: Moonchildren of the light element are seen as the most pure forms of moonchildren. They are mostly white colored if not pure white while in animal form. Moonchildren of the light element specialize in healing magic, they can't really use their magic to attack as it is defensive based. Moonchildren of the light element have the weakest magic. Their magic consists of all kinds of healing and protection spells. Their magic is stronger during the day.

Darkness: Moonchildren of the dark element typically are darker colors, typically darker blues and purples but some are pure black in animal form. It is common for the sclera of the eyes of moonchildren of the darkness element to be black. They are the strongest element of the moonchildren but most never reach their full potential. Their magic is purely offensive meant to deal heavy damage. Their magic is stronger during the night. They can travel through shadows and can use their shadows as weapons. The darkness element is the hardest magic to learn to control.

For moonchildren in general each one will also have the same capabilities of the animal that they are, for instance canine moonchildren will have a great sense of smell and hearing even in their “human” form. They are also still capable of using their elemental powers in human form, the only thing is when using powers in human form their eyes will turn into their animal eyes, for instance a moonchild that was a crocodile would have the slit eyes when using their powers in their “human form”.

Effects of the Moon

There is a reason these creatures are known as moonchildren, part of that is because they regain magical energy by bathing in moonlight but the other reason is because certain types of moons affect their behavior, regardless of how strong their will is they will still be affected by the moons, it is something they can’t avoid or escape from

Super Moon: This is one of the four types of moons that can work in a moonchild’s favor. During a supermoon their senses are heightened. They gain a better sense of hearing, smell, and sight. They seem far more perceptive during a supermoon and are pretty much impossible to sneak up on or even find because they can sense someone’s presence before that person would even have an idea the moon child was in the area.

Harvest Moon: This is the second type of moon that can work in a moonchild’s favor. During a harvest moon, moonchildren essentially become stronger, they become physically stronger, their scales are even sturdier and their magical powers gain a boost too. If you’re planning on picking a fight with a moon child, during a harvest moon would be the worst time to do so because that is the time they are at their strongest.

Blue Moon: The effect of a blue moon isn’t necessarily bad, but it doesn’t benefit the moon children either. They become extremely affectionate and loving during this type of moon especially if they were close to you already. Even with strangers the creature that normally stays hidden will come out in search of affection, specifically a few head pats and maybe a cuddle. Ever wanted to see how soft a moonchild can be, a blue moon is the best time to find out.

Blood Moon: This moon is a nightmare for moonchildren, they refer to the night of a blood moon as frenzy night. They become extremely aggressive during a blood moon, it heights their primal animalistic instincts. They will lash out and go berserk on anyone who does something to annoy them. During this moon they lose their sense of morality and will not hesitate to shred anyone in their way. Steer clear of these creatures during a blood moon or you will pay for it greatly.
