Backstory
Dye was born in Anchorage, Alaska to a surrogate for his dads. They named him Caspian, making his full name Caspian Marin-Brookfield. He has an older sister twelve years his senior. Dad #1 is a fisherman and dad #2 is a geologist. He lived in Anchorage for 8 years, with the family eventually relocating to Tumwater, partially for dad #1's work, and so they could be closer to his sister, who was in college in Washington (struggling to afford rent). There, he met his new best friend for life, Tahoma! They bonded over their shared love of fishing. He was a rather quiet kid, so he was immediately thankful for a friend. He quickly acquired his nickname based on his wardrobe (every piece was tie dyed, mostly by dad #2). Despite him rarely wearing it anymore, the name stuck.
They spent a lot of time fishing and exploring the estuaries and waters in town growing up. This, unfortunately, led to... The Incident. One day, the two were fishing, minding their own damn business (as much as you could while removing hooks from mouths), when the sockeye salmon they caught fought back. It bit his on the arm, which fucking sucked, and then it bit Tahoma when she tried to free him. In a twist of cruel fate, they fell into the river and.... transformed into salmon mermaids.
It took a while for Dye to come to terms with the whole fish person thing (and to figure out that it happened every time he touched water). Once dreaming of going to business school and then running a bar in Las Vegas (and being a bartender), Dye was crushed. He'd always been very studious and serious, and it felt like his world was falling apart... Especially as his once-close relationship with his family deteriorated over his freak secret. Thankfully, he at least had Tahoma to confide in. Best friends for life...
