Biography

Early Life

Basilio was born and raised in Queens, New York, and is the only child of Estela Camejo, who’s a tailor, and Daniel Delgado, who was a sales manager. Estela is of Mexican descent, and Daniel is of Comanche descent. Basilio’s birth put tremendous stress on his parents. His life felt hard to navigate with very few people to talk to. Throughout his teen years, Basilio spent time in and out recovering in psych wards. In early 2008, Estela and Daniel had finally filed for a divorce. Following the divorce, Estela and Basilio moved to San Bernardino, California to live with one of Estela’s sisters, Evita Reyes, in summer of 2009.

During his childhood, Basilio was raised catholic and attended a private catholic school where he enrolled in choir. From the age of five, he grew up alongside neighbor Cypress Arion. He began dating his classmate, Allen Costa, around age 13. Due to the homophobic environment he was raised in, the relationship was kept under lock and key. They eventually cut ties when Basilio had to move cross-country to California. Basilio attended his first public school entering his senior year. His enrollment in the school's choir didn't last long before dropping the course because of a racially motivated classmate. Two weeks after he disenrolled, Basilio punched the student in the jaw after finding him in the cafeteria. Basilio was put in detention for the following 2 weeks and the student allegedly transferred schools a few months later.

He met and began dating Victoria (Vikki) Smith, leading him down the most damaging romantic spiral he’d experienced. At the same time, he had found a soft spot for Valerie Jones. Their interactions and affairs were kept unknown during Vikki’s reign. He cut ties with Vikki in December of 2008, and that following May, Basilio and Valerie moved into their own apartment soon after graduation.

Personal Life

Basilio’s professional music career began in late 2010. With the release of his debut album his media attention grew and the stress of this sudden popularity didn't truly hit until late 2012. To add onto this stress, Baslio got news about his fathers suicide the weekend following his 21st birthday. In early 2013, he underwent alcohol poisoning, and mercifully, Valerie made it home in time to have saved his life. The event put a lot of strain on their relationship and later that summer Basilio parted ways with Valerie. They kept in touch and still spent nights together, but heartbreak only worsened Basilio’s rituals as he rapidly spiraled.

Basilio began attending private venue parties to help take his mind off life. In the late fall of 2014, he had encountered C. Ishaan at a few private parties. Both were in bad emotional states, and either intended on starting a new romantic relationship, but inevitably they linked. Ishaan had access to substances and became an obvious bad influence for Basilio. They were in search of things to replace their losses, so initially, they used love and drugs to fill that void.

Basilio's first world tour following his second studio album, Whatever Whenever Wherever, aided Basilio in taking focus off his unhealthy habits while being surrounded by supportive influences. Once the tour ended, he relapsed causing weight loss due to fatigue and a lack of appetite. In January of 2016, Ishaan had blacked out from arrhythmia. This forced the two to change their habits, so they began their year and a half hiatus from music.

Career

Early

Basilio’s family has a long line of guitarists and vocalists. Both parents were heavy music lovers and some of his earliest memories were heavily influenced by music. He enrolled into his catholic school choir in second grade and began learning scales on his guitar around age 7. He started taking piano lessons in late elementary as a part of his curriculum.

Basilio quickly became one of the top choir students of his school. After a successful audition, he joined the choir's music ensemble, Quin Trill, in 8th grade. For Christmas 2008, the school’s choir performed Beyonce’s Halo with solo performances from all 5 members of Quin Trill. His mother, Estela, recorded the performance which was later released on the 10th anniversary of Halo, November 18th, 2018. The group was the main focus point of most holiday events hosted at their church. Basilio's first gigs as a singer was volunteering performances at retirement homes with Quin Trill.

Basilio began songwriting in his early teens and would often record and post demos to his MySpace. After one of his suicide attempts, his left wrist had been permanently damaged. This heavily halted his musical creativity as he was forced to learn different methods of playing instruments. After transferring schools, he enrolled in choir entering his senior year of high school. He stayed in the curriculum for around 3 months before dropping out due to being racially targeted by a bigoted classmate.
