after escaping Avernus and joining the Ghostslayers, Ashkarn has lots of growing to do with his personal convictions and becoming comfortable with company once more. Believe it or not, being isolated and forced to obey a master while killing people with littel to no regard definitely does something to you.
Ashkarn is a highly independent tiefling. he does not really care too much about pleasing others and often times resorted to being bossed around by his master. he was forced into becoming an emotionally devoid monster under Asmodeus's reign, slaughtering people with little regard, only because his master told him to. as a result, he is socially and emotionally inept. his view of others is warped by his misdoings, but he pledges to rectify his actions after he is kicked out of Avernus. of course, that requires him to learn how to socialize and begin to actually care for others.
- I don’t talk about the thing that torments me. I’d rather not burden others with my curse.
- I put no trust in divine beings.
- I expect danger around every corner.
- I refuse to become a victim, and I will not allow others to be victimized.
- I like to know my enemy’s capabilities and weaknesses before rushing into battle. (Lawful)
- I’ll stop the spirits that haunt me or die trying. (Any)
- A terrible guilt consumes me. I hope that I can find redemption through my actions.
- I talk to spirits that no one else can see.
- I have certain rituals that I must follow every day. I can never break them.
the shortswords were owned by his parents before their deaths. he held onto them and has stained each sword with thousands of his targets' blood.
he learned to take out some of his enemies from far away, more specifically ones that could actually be a threat to a seasoned assassin.
he wears scale mail armor with a brown tunic underneath. he dons worn-leather knee high boots, a ranger cloak, and brown leather gloves.
he wears casual, loose-fitting clothing around the camp and in the inn.

You manifest a minor wonder, a sign of supernatural power, within range. You create one of the following magical effects within range:
> Your voice booms up to three times as loud as normal for 1 minute.
> You cause flames to flicker, brighten, dim, or change color for 1 minute.
> You cause harmless tremors in the ground for 1 minute.
> You create an instantaneous sound that originates from a point of your choice within range, such as a rumble of thunder, the cry of a raven, or ominous whispers.
> You instantaneously cause an unlocked door or window to fly open or slam shut.
> You alter the appearance of your eyes for 1 minute.
If you cast this spell multiple times, you can have up to three of its 1-minute effects active at a time, and you can dismiss such an effect as an action.
Ashkarn was born in Aventus. His parents were part-time soldiers for Asmodeus and Zariel. He was born into the life of the battlefield, training with his parents and other mentors on their off time. When he was seven, an ambush killed many tieflings in their army. The enemy slaughtered a majority of the tiefling children, though Ashkarn and two others escaped the carnage.
Ashkarn made a pact with Asmodeus. Ashkarn would receive unbridled power in combat; in return, Asmodeus required him to become a solo assassin/soldier and some other hidden requirements that did not come to light until much later. He continued on to kill high-profile demons, fiends, and eventually moved on to kill some feys and humanoids when Asmodeus allowed him to go to the surface at sixteen. Asmodeus conditioned him into becoming a monster, having barely any regard for the lives he slaughtered. As long as there was slight proof they were a threat, he'd eliminate them without complaint.
At twenty-two, he was given a contract from Asmodeus to kill a tielfing child. He refused, resulting in Asmodeus becoming angry with him and banishing him to the surface as punishment. Interestingly enough, however, his powers remained, leading Ashkarn to believe that he is probably going to be used later. He wandered as a mercenary for a few years until he met members of the Order of the Ghostslayers. Since it fit his skills, he wearily joined.
The order offered him new powers and a new purpose. He went along with the contractual killing as it was what he was familiar with, but when he started to become close to his brotherhood, he began his journey of understanding basic companionship and friendship that he had been deprived of for so many years. The only thing he does not get behind is the patrons he is serving through he will confront that when the time comes. The order doesn't mind that much since he's still considered a new-recruit.
Through his new campaign, his character arc is defined by breaking his pact with Asmodeus, learning human emotion and empathy, learning healthy friendship/companionship, and defining himself as more than a killer and a tool.
